Vikings want a soccer team
Vikings kick up a fuss for soccer
As part of their battle for a new $1 billion stadium, the Vikings are fighting a smaller, largely unnoticed skirmish to get a professional soccer franchise....

Soccer blows. Sorry to all my friends across the pond.

I get the most pissed off looks from people with my VKG 4 LFE Wisconsin license plate, and I LOVE IT!!

Its a beautiful sport. Very elegant and artistic. The things soccer players are able to do should be called an art form. They and boxers may be the best conditioned physical sport(gymnastic doesn't count) in the world.

hahaha!!.. don't hate Anglo!

That is an interesting take. Pay 40 Million to buy a franchise and stick it in a closed roof 65000 seat stadium when the game is to be played outdoors and currently averages 17000 fans per game. I don't see this as a cash generator in any way at this point. But hey, Soccer leagues have done so well in the past lol.

MLS guidelines mean that they do not allow "domed teams", hence the call for a retractable roof, which of course would pass MLS guidelines.

But the roof is not in the budget from what has been released so far. IMHO it should be possible but the number crunchers differ in that opinion.
Still, 17,000 fan average across the league doesn't lead me to believe that there is enough meat on the bone to justify the convertible.

It's growing in popularity each year, with a good performance from the US soccer team in the World Cup qualifying in the coming year or so, I think there is a niche the Wilfs are looking to exploit. More and more big name players are heading to the MLS, so who knows.
