With the economy in the tank and state government awash in red ink, a new home for the Minnesota Vikings will be a hard sell at the Legislature in 2010.

Lol.
The state has no money and because of the unallotment that was just done by the Gov, the state will be in worse shape over the next 2 years and cities with a population of over 1000 will see big cuts to their LGA,which is going to mean big cuts, greatly higher taxes, or both across the state.
Then there are the budget shifts that move payments for k-12 education from this year to next year and no sign of where the funds for next years k-12 will come from.
Here is a link to the page where you can find the unallotment schedule for every city in the state over the next biennium.

I would be very surprised if anything is done this year and with the economy as it is, a building that is paid for should be attractive right now.

But to the Vikings it isn't. They will not renew the Metrodome lease & there isn't much time left to build a new stadium before the lease expires.
When Wilf runs out of options, what will he do with the team?"We'll only have 20 games left on our lease after this season," said Lester Bagley, the Vikings' vice president for public relations and stadium development. They have "no interest" in extending the lease.
I know, I know, he stated that he would not move the team, but he's never said he wouldn't sell it.
He also made this statement a few months ago;
“I would have been interested 15 years ago,†Wilf said in the days after Favre announced his Second Annual Retirement.
"No, I'm not interested.
No way."
He also stated Tice's job was not in jeopardy during the 2005 season.
Bottom line, what he says & what he does are sometimes two different things.

They could always just sign on for a year by year lease so they aren't locked into it for any long period of time, that way each year they have the ability to threaten to move the team until a new stadium is finally built.

They do already have the stadium though... I guess it wouldn't really cost the city anything. It would only bring money in.
