Re: Vikings vs. Rams pre-game articles & predictions

As sad as it is, I think we get whooped.

TJ's second start ever, Whitaker is our #2 corner right now. Playing one of the better pass teams in the league with Bruce and Holt....it does NOT look good at all.

Rams 31

Good news/bad news: With one game to play, the Vikings rank No. 1 in the NFL in run defense, allowing 54.5 yards a game, and 32nd and last in pass defense (238.0).

The Vikings' 817 yards rushing allowed are 358 fewer than No. 2 Baltimore, while their 3,570 yards passing allowed are 27 more than No. 31 Cincinnati.

If the Vikings hold the Rams to less than 152 yards rushing, they will break the modern-day NFL record of 60.6 yards a game set by the 2000 Baltimore Ravens. Leber said that and finishing No. 1 against the run are goals.

"I think as long as they're obtainable, they're right there in our grasp," he said. "I think you'd be hard-pressed to sit there and say it's not important. It is. That's something we're going to be gunning for."
We are at 54.5 ypg right now & the top 2 all-time for fewest rushing yards per game are;

519
Chi. Bears, 1942 - 11 games 47.2 per game avg.
558
Philadelphia, 1944 - 10 games 55.8 per game avg.

We can't make the number one spot, but we can beat the Eagles 1944 record if we hold the Rams to 75 rushing yards or less.

You are correct again. And it would still be a great acomplishment if we took that 2nd spot.

And it would still be the best in the modern day (i.e. after 1960), as the quote says.

Back when the Bears made that record it were a 12 game season. Not that it matter because the listet stats are gameavg.

Thanks to PPE for the sig.

QUOTES ON THE RAMS

December 27, 2006

Videos & audios of Childress, Jackson, Winfield, Linehan & Chavous
Q: There was no strife or personality conflict with you and Marcus Robinson, it's solely to get a veteran out and bring some new guys in?
A: Yeah, I mean I spent as much time talking to Marcus Robinson as any member of our football team, and maybe twice as much time talking to Marcus...
this quote amuses me because according to some players they (childress and the players) never talk.

I thought this was well known, but maybe it isn't!

Before the season started Childress set up a system were the players have
representatives that meet with Childress on a weekly bases to discuss the team and the problems the players are having, it is the same system that the Eagles use and as far as I know the Viking's are still using it.

If a player has concerns he tells the rep and the rep brings it up with Childress at their meeting, it is not a hard system to figure out and seems to me like an efficient use of time.

This was brought up in another thread that Lombardi wasn't a nice guy to his players. Actually he was hated by his players until they won championships and then they all revered him and he was the greatest coach ever.

I don't care if the players like Childress, I don't care if he sits down with them on an individual bases and holds their hands and wipes their tears away.
All I care about is that they play hard for him, that they respect him and they listen to what he says.
If he loses the team and they don't listen, don't respect him and don't play hard for him, then we have a problem.

Could we be at the point right now?

I don't know, but I hope not!
I hope that he may be a hated man but I hope that he turns out to be a winning head-coach like another hated coach in the NFL today Belichick.
What we've got here is failure to communicate.

Jackson against our run D is an interesting matchup.
Unfortunately I see them attacking our pass defense with Bulger instead.
And now that we have nothing left to play for, I really expect our offense to open up, but I don't know if we can keep pace with St Louis.
A key turnover late in the game decides a 41-38 shootout.
The only way the Vikings score 38 is with 3 defensive or return TDs.
And that STILL means the offense needs to score 2 and get a FG.

31-13, St. Louis, I'm afraid.
