    Vikings vs Lions Matchups

I was looking over some details of this game and it should be quite interesting.. each team's strength is the other teams weakness.

    Lions --- Vikings
    Standing: 2nd, NFC North
    --- 3rd, NFC North
    Offense: 333.3 ypg (15th)
    --- 332.1 ypg (16th)
    Passing: 251.2 ypg (7th)
    --- 158.8 ypg (31st
    Rushing: 82.1 ypg (32nd)
    --- 173.3 ypg (1st)
    Defense: 364.9 ypg (29th)
    --- 357.9 ypg (27th)
    Streaks:
    Lost 3 --- Won 2

I was surprised by a couple things here.. i didn't know that the Lions overall defense was ranked 29th, thats a good sign.

Lions last ranked rushing attack vs our top ranked rush defense.
Lions 7th ranked passing attack vs our last ranked passing defense.. should be a good match up.
AD/CT & Kitna all could have big days.

Also, its kind of funny that we're less than 1 yard per game off in total offense
    :P

Injuries:Safety Tank Williams (knee) missed his second straight day of practice, while cornerback Antoine Winfield (hamstring), fullback Tony Richardson (knee), center Matt Birk (knee) and linebacker Dontarrious Thomas (groin) were limited.

Williamson misses practice with headaches, Peterson getting used to knee brace

A knee injury has ended the season for Detroit Lions cornerback Stanley Wilson.

The team placed Wilson on injured reserve list and signed cornerback Ramzee Robinson from the practice squad Wednesday.

    Re: Vikings vs Lions Matchups

Quick Take: Lions (6-5) at Vikings (5-6)

Streaks: The Vikings have won 10 of the last 11 meetings and dominate the overall series 60-30-2.

    Last week
: The Lions lost 37-26 to the Packers on Thanksgiving after the team mounted a late comeback that fell short. The Vikings stunned the Giants, picking off Eli Manning four times and running three of the interceptions back for touchdowns. Minnesota's 41-17 win was paced on offense by a mistake-free Tarvaris Jackson, who finished 10-of-12 for 129 yards and one touchdown.

At stake: This is a pivotal NFC North game as both teams need a win (and some help from other teams) to hang on to any playoff hopes in the cloudy NFC. While the Lions look to halt a three-game skid, the Vikings have won three of their last four games. The Lions have one of the toughest remaining schedules of the playoff contenders, facing opponents with a combined record of 35-20.

Key matchup: Vikings running backs vs. Lions run defense. Adrian Peterson should be back this week for the Vikings after sitting out the last two games with a knee injury. He still leads the league in rushing, and the combination of Peterson and Chester Taylor will boost the confidence of QB Tarvaris Jackson, who threw four interceptions the last time he faced the Lions.

Did you know?: Lions QB Jon Kitna needs only 103 passing yards to reach 3,000 for the sixth time in his career. ... Vikings DE Brian Robison leads NFC rookies with 4.5 sacks. ... The Lions have forced an NFL-high 34 fumbles this season.

    Re: Vikings vs Lions Matchups

Look for the Vikings offense to capitilize on the past two games success & open up the play book and put some points on the board.

As of now the Vikes are ranked 16th in the NFL in points per game (3rd in the NFC N) at 21.5.
    (Det. ranked 9th, 2nd in NFC N).

Coming into this game the Lions are ranked 26th in points allowed per game, at 24.5/game, last in the division.
With Jackson's confidence rising, Rice's continueing emergence into a quality NFL WR, and both CT playing at a high level and the return of AD (against a dead last ranked rush defense)
If theres a game left in this season that the Vikes need to come out and put some points up, this is the one.
    imo

Right now on the poll at the right 55% of voters think the Vikes have the best chance at the playoffs of the 5-6 teams.

Young Adrian Peterson could have played last week, but the wisdom of head coach Brad Childress prevailed and he waited one more week. Now the Vikings sit with their eye on the playoffs and a win at home over the Lions puts them in the thick of the race.
