Withrow's mental game is lacking, IMO.

Personally, I don't think there is intelligent life on other planets. Why should other planets be any different from this one?

"At the very earliest, Birk would be ready to return by mid-November. But that would mean the Vikings would have to carry him on their active roster until that point. If he is placed on injured reserve, Birk would miss the entire season."
That hurts boys. But I'm still glad they didn't guarantee him money. He's been injured for 2 years.
Birk has not been hurt for 2 years he was hurt last year and prior to that he pretty much has played every game! What we've got here is failure to communicate.

Re: Vikings turn down Birk .....
What the hell are we thinking? It's just another example of how the business side of professional sports is ruinung everything. Birk has been nothing but a badass for us. Now, he comes and offers to be even more of a badass, and we cut all ties of loyalty. That disgusts me. I think we messed up bigtime on ths one. Not because Withrow won't be an adequate backup but because the message sent is "we only care about money." The man probably deserved a raise anyways.

Re: Vikings turn down Birk .....
I thought that Goldberg is now the backup center as well as both gaurd positions.. Not Withrow? I could be wrong cuz everyone is saying its Withrow, but I thought I heard it was Goldbergs job

Goldberg is backup, Withrow is the starter.

Re: Vikings turn down Birk .....
From what I saw of Withrow last year when he was playing, I think he can do a fine job in there. He won't go to the Pro-Bowl, but he can do a satisfactory job and keep us in there. Most people are bashing him, because he's looked bad in one preseason game. Calm down. Everybody on the o-line looked bad in that game.
And maybe there is a silver lining. Maybe this is the oppurtunity Bryant McKinnie needs to show everybody what he can do. Maybe he can anchor in the line and take over Birk's spot (I don't mean at center) as the leader of the O-line.
Thanks PPE for the sig.

This is unfortunate news.
Why is everyone so down on withrow? I admit I haven't wtached him play closely (I rarely get to watch Vikings games where I live), but by some people's accounts, they paint withrow as being worthy of warming the bench on a JV highschool team. What makes people so certain that Withrow will be a flop?
Withrow lacks the mental part, to be good. He is however a really good pass blocker, but sucks at run blocking. This will kill our inside running game, which we have seen so far in preseason, with withrow in there. He just gets killed trying to run block NT's.
He's fine for passing, but we may end up passing the ball just as much as we did last year, because of this injury. Although with jimmy k back, we will probably run more, just mostly to the outside.
Wish arizona hadn't picked up conaty, because I thought he was the better all around center for us last year and didn't have the brain farts that withrow did.
