Matt Birk's offer to guarantee his money for next year if he plays this year hurt. Just heard it from Chris Mortenson on ESPN News .... sorry no link.
Guess the balls back in Birks court on what he wants to do.

that SUCKS .. maybe this is still smoke and mirrors though (hopefully)
Im sorry boys, but in a violent sport where you do not have to, you should NEVER offer guaranteed money if you do not have to. Let him sit out and heal himself, that is the right thing to do anyways.
good to hear.
i want birk to get the surgery done and get healthy (hopefully) for next season. theres no reason at all to delay surgery. what if he delayed surgery and went out and played half of this season and then was forced into surgery. and then we miss him for half of this year and some of next year. not worth it.
choose surgery, birk.
Good, I wouldn't guarantee him money either.
It's gonna suck without him, but he needs to get 100% healthy, and come back and play for us next year.
We wouldn't even know if he could be effective playing through the pain, or if he could last through the whole season.
This is definitely the right descision, even if we have to suffer with Withrow at center now. Wish we would have brought Conaty back, before Denny snatched him up. We'll have to watch the waiver's and hope some team drops a good one, because goldberg as a backup center, is not good, considering he has never played center before, and he sucks at any other position.
Like the Vikings are going to say "YES PLAY HURT POTENTIALLY DAMAGING YOURSELF FOR LIFE FOR US!" lol.
I appreciate his guts, but the Vikings would get blasted by the media if they went through with this.
I would love to have Birk around but this is the third year in a row with injuries. He wasnt even sure he would make it back from his 3 sports hernia surgery.
I will get bashed for this but cut him know. Eat the salary and go out and get someone who is healthy. Put Withrow in at center all year starting know so that everyone on offense gets used to him.
Go out and sign Verba to back up at tackle and guard since he is probably looking for a team he can win with and will take a small one year deal to prove himself, plus that mean streak would be good for our offensive line.

You want us to cut a team player like Birk who will be fine next year and sign that greedy declining player Verba? Is it for certain that he couldn't be healthy by the end of the year for the Steelers and Ravens back to back games.Quote:

Cutting him makes no sense. He is getting paid for this season either way, so why not let him have the surgery and see how he recovers from it, before we cut a 4 time pro bowl center? That really doesn't make any sense, when we are paying him anyways.
