    Re: Vikings turn the corner!

We're closer than the a lot of people think.
We're one or two players on defense and a little better scheme from having a Baltimoresk Super Bowl defense.
Plus starting quality QB and a couple other offensive keys you could be looking at a SB contender.

I especially think this if we can shore up our pass defense.
We could be like the Baltimore team that won the Super Bowl and let our defense do the heavy lifting while we pound the ball keep them fresh and win with ball control and defense.

I think we are just one piece from being easy contenders....that is a good quality QB. Hopefully Jackson will come around soon. I think it was McKinnie who said that we would start seeing real signs of improvement from Jackson in the 11th week...hang in there! Almost there!!

    Thanks Josdin00 for the sig!

before i start believing we've progressed i wanna see a game where peterson doesn't win it for us.
to me all we've seen is peterson is ridiculous.
we've seen flashes from sidney rice and shiancoe, and the defense has been solid for the most part.
but until i see us string a couple wins together, and one or two being when the other team takes peterson away, then i'll believe.
but right now all we've done is win the games that peterson has over 200 yards in some capacity.
if you can't win those games, then you are really in trouble.

2 Years I've been here & someone has finally weaved a Cheech and Chong metaphor into a Vikings thread.
    :P

We are certainly improving, but I expect that out of a young team as the season goes along.

The corner is a long gradual one. I don't see us as being a real contender for at least 2 years.

    what?
    2 years from when?
and a contender for what, the playoffs?
the bears went to the super bowl with grossman, the saints from 4-12 to the nfc championship game.
romo is starting like his 14th game and is considered the nfc favorite.
if we need another 2 years to get shit together we'll probably be old and bad all over again.
the nfl has alot of transition from year to year, from personel to coaches, so if childress has a four year plan, chances are he won't be around when and if it starts working.

2 years from now. The 2009 season. We need to get the QB situation figured out first & that can possibly happen during the offseason, depending on whether or not they bring in a FA QB.

The right side of the line needs to be fixed. I see that as a 2 year project. The scheme is so complicated, ut's been stated here that it takes two years for a player to learn it.

With that said, anyone we bring in here, FA or draft pick, that's the time frame you are looking at. And that's IF the player pans out.

IMO, we may be looking for a RB. Memo's contract is up at the end of the year & I have this feeling that C-Tay won't want to play 2nd fiddle again and will want to start somewhere. Look for him to demand a trade.

The receiver corp is promising, but we need to make improvements there as well.

So yes, I think 2 years is a fair assesment.

We are still turning the corner, and the next few games will determine the progress we've made. It appears the hardest part of our schedule is behind us, and we competed in every game. Now we've found our identity and things are starting to jell. The o-line is dominating and our running game is second to none. I think we'll make a strong second half push this year, and it will form the foundation for being a strong contender next year.

??? Dominating? I hardly think so. We're doing a pretty good job of run blocking, but we still need a lot of work on the right side & need to shore up the pass blocking.

You're right singer, but I believe we will be a play-action team, and get the ball out quickly. It looks like the coaches have finally found the best way to use our players, and we will play to our strengths. I think this team is hitting it's stride, and will continue to improve down the stretch. Sure we are a couple players away from pushing for a championship, but another good draft, and a select player or two from free-agency we will be a contender.
