Typical "Pass the bill first, work out the details later" situation. Traditional tailgating doesn't fit into the economic realities of what they are doing anyway.

If you grill your own and bring your own, they can't over-charge you for theirs...which drops their concession revenues. Just a matter of time before some bean counter figured that out and tried to clog that drain.

He also said that the team is hoping that the new food service provider for the stadium, likely to be picked July 19, will offer some hospitality options outside the stadium, maybe even some grilling opportunities.
    At what cost to fans?

    I agree.

It is a slap in the face to dedicated season ticket holders.

The NFL is more about revenue squeezing than the game of football.

Not a huge surprise... Given the push for new development around the stadium I think we all expected to see tailgating lots take a hit.

I think the Vikings understand the push for tailgating near the stadium. For those with short memories, Tailgating has only been in its current location since 2006 (or was it 2007?). Before that tailgating was in the old parking lots where Target Field now stands, and we were bussed to the dome. And it sucked. A lot. Before that there were a lot more open parking lots along Washington street that everyone tailgated at.

So we've move around a few times since the stadium moved into the city. I didn't expect it to be any different this time around. Hopefully the Vikings remain true to the fan experience and work to keep it close to the dome. I dislike the 'railgating' idea.

One idea that has been tossed around is closing down some of the city streets for tailgating. I like that a lot... but we'll see.

We can always tailgate in the parking ramps as far as that goes. Just pick a section to park, get out the grill and have at it. Then take the skyway to the stadium. No problemo.

Some additional Stadium information from yesterday's Q&A:

New Vikings Stadium Q&A: How Long Will My Wait At The Restroom Be?

Specifically: images, tailgating, doors, and bathroom lines...

It sounds like they are still looking to have tailgating in close proximity of the stadium. They didn't even mention railgating this time - I think the negative reaction they got from fans got through to them...

They do get to charge $50 for each tailgate spot, so it's not a total loss.
Anyone know if concessions and parking are included in revenue sharing?

Actually, the Vikings do NOT currently get to charge for the tailgate spots. They contracted with a third party to manage tailgating. They do get a small contracting fee, but that is it, and they have to lease the lots for 8-10 days a year. So it is kind of a wash. It isn't like concessions. Although the Vikings got very, very little in terms of concessions at MOA field anyway. The new stadium will give the Vikings a considerable boost in concession revenue.

But to your specific answer, no - concessions and parking or any other ancillary revenue is not part of the revenue sharing model. Just standard, non-luxury tickets.

If only the parking spaces where wide enough to accommodate a car, truck, RV plus have room for canopies & grills, not to mention ventilation to alleviate the smoke from grills below the top floor & ramps having 0 bathrooms.

The top floor could be reserved for tailgaters only & porta-potties added, but it would only be a matter of time before some drunk fan ends up over the rail & liability puts a stop to it.
