Re: Vikings would clinch division with win over Falcons

The Vikings would clinch the NFC North if they beat the Atlanta Falcons in Week 16.

The Vikings are 9-5 and will play the Falcons and the Giants. The Bears are 8-6 and will play the Packers and Texans. If the Vikings beat the Falcons, the Vikings are assured of at least a 10-6 season. The best the Bears can do is 10-6.

If both the Vikings and Bears finish 10-6, the official NFL tiebreaking procedures will be used to determine the champion of the NFC North.

For ties within the division, the first tiebreaker is head-to-head matchups. This year, the Vikings and Bears each won one of the games they played.

The second tiebreaker is divisional record. The Vikings are 4-2, and the Bears are 3-2. If the Bears beat the Packers, the Bears will also be 4-2 in the division, and the next tiebreaker will be used.

The third tiebreaker is "Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games." Common games between the Vikings and Bears this year are:

    Green Bay
    Detroit
    Carolina
    Atlanta
    New Orleans
    Tampa Bay
    Indianapolis
    Houston
    Tennessee
    Jacksonville

If the Vikings beat the Falcons, the Vikes would be 8-4 in the common games. The Bears do not play the Giants this year, so the Giants game on Week 17 won't affect the Vikings' record in common games.

Even if the Bears beat the Packers and Texans, the Bears would be only 7-5 in common games.

The Bears lost to the Falcons 22-20 in Atlanta in Week 6. If the Vikings beat the Falcons, that will be the difference in the common games. The win would put the Vikings on top as champions of the NFC North.
Did you really post this and then complain about why it got moved? It should have been completed deleted. This has been known to EVERYONE for quite a while. It has been discussed AT LENGTH in multiple threads and everyone has been aware for TWO weeks that we have the tie breaker over the Bears.
Jesus ... seriously? Calling the mods dipshits? There is only one dipshit here and it is not me (at least not this time) and not the mods.

I dislike Cook and I would never stop watching the Vikings. Granted he is not a Packer but there are a couple of EX-Packers on this team. In fact I hope Mark Tauscher comes here too.
    Amen.

If that was the threshold we all would have quit watching when Steussie was the LT for the team. At times I have really considered looking into whether Cook and Steussie are related.

So are we hoping the Giants beat the Panthers?
So that way if we beat the Giants we get the #2 seed?
Forgive me I didn't feel like looking back 19 pages.

Also anyone else sick of the media talking about how great the Panthers are?
The Vikings beat them in week 3!
The Panthers are the best team because they play defense and run the ball well..blah blah .Seriously that is exactly what the Vikings do and we already beat them darn it.
Brad Childress is 1-6 in games played Dec. 17 or later.

We need the Panthers to beat the Giants. This would put the Panthers at the #1 spot and the Giants at #2. Then if we beat the Falcons and Giants the Vikings would move up to #2.

    Exactly.

Regarding the question of whether we are sick of hearing about the Panthers.
Remember that was week 3 when we beat them.
They are playing very good football right now and are peaking.
The difference is they don't have any questions marks as to how good they are and we do becasue of the QB situation.

Whoever loses between the Giants and Panthers needs to also lose in week 17.
Vikings need to win their last 2 games.
If both those scenarios occur, Vikes get the #2 seed.

We are hoping the Panthers beat the Giants because we play the Giants in week 17 so we'd directly influence the outcome of their losing that game as part of our winning out.
If the Giants win, not only do we still have to beat the Giants in week 17 (though they'd have less to play for), we'd have to hope the Saints beat the Panthers.

I think the Giants losing out is a more likely scenario to be honest with you.

Their offensive line got owned by Dallas, and I think we have a pretty good D-Line as well... in the Dome no less.

Should be a great game. Haven't been this pumped headed into the last couple weeks in a LONG time.
