Good thing they listened to those who said just build it and figure out how to pay for it later.

Well looks like all the, "lets play outdoors in the freezing cold so I can strip off my shirt and get frost bite", crowd will have a couple of years to show how macho they are. LOL

OK, the title of the thread is pretty misleading...

The stadium wasn't delayed - the decision on which construction manager to use was delayed. There is a pretty big difference there.

As to the time spent at TCF - originally it was hoped to be 2 years in the Metrodome and 1 year at TCF. Now it is looking like 1 year in the Metrodome, and 2 years at TCF.

Bottom line, the expected date for the opening of the new stadium is still the 2016 season.

I don't think anyone said that. There was a financing plan in place, it just didn't work out as they were hoping. I hear what you are saying though. The plan wasn't a very good one from the beginning, and the stadium was pushed through regardless of the feasibility of the plan. I have a feeling that this wasn't entirely unexpected, and stadium backers who preferred other financing plans - for instance Racino - supported the bill with this in mind. Politics at its best/worst.

One thing should be clear - if the state is struggling to hold up its end of the agreement, then they can't be beating the drums for little things like an extra 20 feet for a college baseball field...

Initially, the thought was that the Vikings would play at Mall of America Field for the next two season and play just one year on the U of M campus. However, Bagley said that it’s looking more like 2013 will be the final year at the Metrodome and that the team will play two seasons at TCF Bank stadium before moving into their new home in 2016.

“From the feedback I got during the interview process with construction managers, it appears that a realistic schedule would have the Vikings playing in the Metrodome in 2013 and in TCF Bank Stadium in 2014 and 2015 before moving into the new stadium,” Bagley said. “As things stand, this next season will be our last at Mall of America Field. Nothing is set in stone yet, but, from the feedback I received, that’s where things are leaning right now.”

Hmmm, that is going to make the last game of this season a big one. Especially if we end up hosting a playoff game. Can't wait.

With all these delays & roadblocks coming up all the time, it seems like this stadium is never going to be built even though it passed legislation.

Could this all implode & the state back out now or is it a done deal now that it's passed?

Do not fret NP. There will be plenty of other delays in the building of this stadium. It seems whenever the government is involved in a building project, It runs behind schedule right up until close to the deadline. At that point, all the trades are working mega overtime, escalating the buildings cost significantly, to make said deadline. There will also be other f-ups along the way to help drive up the costs.

In the end, it will get done. It will just cost much more than earlier estimates, and a lot of guys will make some good money for a couple of years.
