Unable to reach an agreement on a contract extension with Pat Williams, the Vikings appear to be exploring their options in case the veteran nose tackle signs elsewhere following the season.

According to an NFL source, the team has inquired about Corey Simon and might attempt to set up a visit for him. On Aug. 12, the Vikings signed former Miami Dolphin Fred Evans to a two-year contract....

Corey Simon was a very good defensive tackle while he was an Eagle. But since then, he hasn't been able to stay healthy, so I hope we don't sign him.

I'd rather see us reach a deal with Pat Williams. I know he's old, he still has 1-2 great years left in him.

This is bullshit. Just extend PWill's contract. We already have good depth at DT too. If Wilf is really willing to spend money, Pat is the type of guy who deserves that money.

yah i wouldn't get this.
patt maybe older, but he's showed no signs of dropoff, and simon has barely played in 2 years.
the vikes have plenty of cap space, why not lock up williams for a couple of years and address the future at the position through the draft or a situation like with fred evans.
why do they seem to be so stubborn?
is it his age, or are they just asking for too much money?

As great as Pat is, you have to wonder how many good years he has left.
He hasn't played a lot in his career, but he is getting up there in age.
The Vikes would be crazy to let him just walk, but i can see a situation where he would try to cash in right before he retires.
I'd bet some team with a couple lackey DT's would pay a serious chunk of cash for him.
