Vikings sign veteran wide receiver
Briefly: The Vikings signed wide receiver Randy Hymes to a future contract. Hymes played four seasons for the Baltimore Ravens but did not play in 2006.

Re: Vikings sign veteran wide receiver
WTF?
We cut one former Raven (who has proven that he can still play) and pick up another one who didn't even play last year?
WTF?
Trade for Joe Horn...and pick up Drew Bennett in FA...and be done with it!!!BANNED OR DEAD...I'LL TAKE EITHER ONE

He doesn't even have 6500 yards total in 3 seasons. 4 TDs. This guy is terrible, no better than what we have already, and he's been out of football for a year. Good step towards a winning season franchise, keep up the good work!!
Edit: Did some more research and found out he was an undrafted rookie as well. This guy's been destined for greatness ever since he donned that Baltimore uniform for the first time.
He played QB in college, at Grambling, and he was not very good. On his career he was well under a 50% passer, 33 TDs and 22 INTs, and 4417 yards. Thats in at least 4 years.

Joe Horn and Drew Bennett, thats a combined age of 65. If Zygi and Childress are in it for the long haul, that will never happen.WTF?

Re: Vikings sign veteran wide receiver
Relax people ... teams make signings like this all the time ... it is not uncommon at all. He will probably be a practice squad guy given a chance to earn his stripes onto the team. It is not like they made this move and are saying they are done for the offseason and this will fix all their woes. It is a minor move for a minor player ... done by all teams to fill the full roster and practice squad.

Horn is still a legit #1...and Bennett is one of the main reasons that Vince Young was able to assimilate to the NFL this season, as he was the Titans' leading reciever this season."cajunvike" wrote:

I am looking for sure-handed solutions here...not over-hyped draft choices.
Both of these guys fit the bill and won't break the bank...plus their combined experience will help TJack make the transition to starting in the NFL.
Plus it gives TWill one more chance to come up slowly and either get it right or get out of Dodge!BANNED OR DEAD...I'LL TAKE EITHER ONE

Im pretty sure it was just done for depth. Looking ahead for training camp. Not meant to blow anyone away. We released/signed players to the pracitce squad all year long..always making changes. The Star Tribune also learned that the Vikings have made a minor move today, signing former Ravens receiver Randy Hymes to a futures contract. For those keeping track of such things, the Vikings have now signed six players to such contracts.
Included are cornerback Patrick Body; defensive tackle Alex Guerrero; center Norm Katnik; receiver Maurice Mann; and guard Jimmy Martin. All were on the Vikings practice squad at the end of the season.
