He seems pretty thankful to have another chance, but I have heard that song and dance before.
The last person we gave a second chance to led the cops on a high speed chase while drunk, and threw out WR corps into shambles just in time for the regular season to start.

Fool me once shame on you.
    Fool me twice...
At least in this case there is a front office body instead of another player that pushed to bring him aboard.
Hopefully it will work out, but I will be viewing him with skepticism for the next season or two.
Fortunately, in Evans's case, he won't be counted on in the same capacity as Koren Robinson was...he will be strictly depth...and we already have good backups.
Worth taking a flyer on him in this case.

This sounds out of character for Childress. Back up to Williams, huh?
    This is BS.

How about all out hypocrisy from this whole gol 'darnit administration.
I personally can overlook the possession charge although that is already hypocrisy but this is BS.

One officer was allegedly bitten on the wrist and a female officer sustained scrapes on her left knee, police said.

    fricken BS.
Wasn't his backup Howard Green performing well anyways.

I guess at least CCtheBest can't be mad that we aren't acquiring low lifes now.

The way Goddell is suspending guys this guy will probably be out for the first four games. This is a very confusing signing.

I get the most pissed off looks from people with my VKG 4 LFE Wisconsin license plate, and I LOVE IT!!

I'm kindof torn on this one.
Young talent with a lot of upside but bringing some baggage that maybe we don't want/need.

A bit upset that there might be a bit of Hypocrisy here, however, on the other hand, if the guy is signed to a contract that basically says if you screw up you get nothing, then let him in come on in and see if he can make us better.

As a Phat Pat fan, I hope this is nothing more than a ploy to get his agent off his arse and come up with a fair deal that all can be happy with.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah. It was fun watching Randall Cunningham and Jeff George and Daunte Culpepper throw flying meteors out to Randy Moss and Cris Carter. It would have been a lot more fun, I think, to see the Vikes win a gol 'darnit championship."
About a month ago I think.
I can't take credit, I got it off from an external blog site.
I honestly don't remember the link off hand, but he came in here and advertised the link, and I haven't seen him back - so I haven't gone back either.
It is a pretty funny quote though.
    And so true.

Eh, I could see some people having issues with this signing, but I doubt we lose an arm and a leg if he does not pan out. He is rumored to be decent in the pass rush ... which is something we know we can use ... and at worst he can provide a spell here and there for some of the front liners.

    Re: Vikings sign Fred Evans

But Rick Spielman, Vikings vice president of player personnel, began an internal discussion about Evans several weeks ago. His new assistant, George Paton, was a member of the Dolphins front office when they drafted Evans in the seventh round last season.

Sunday, Vikings coach Brad Childress said he spoke to more people while investigating Evans than he has for any other player.

"From everybody that you talk to," Childress said, "[Evans] was a guy that made a mistake and was paying for it. Somewhere, you make a decision based on what you see, what you know, people you talk to in this business, our coaches spending time with him, and our coaches talking to people that have interacted with him."

    Character counts

The Vikings have made character and accountability key buzzwords since Childress arrived two years ago, and they eliminated more than 90 players from their draft board in April because of character concerns. During a community speech Wednesday in Mankato, Spielman emphasized how important character is in assembling a team.
Police twice used a Taser gun on Evans, according to the arrest report, in attempts to subdue the 6-foot-4, 305-pound player who appeared in one game as a rookie last season with the Dolphins. Officers said they asked Evans to leave the taxi and, after he refused, they attempted to put him in handcuffs. He allegedly resisted, leading to the scuffle.

Evans was charged with multiple counts of battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting with violence, along with single counts of disorderly intoxication and trespassing. One officer was allegedly bitten on the wrist and a female officer sustained scrapes on her left knee, police said.

Dolphins coach Cam Cameron, in a brief statement, said the team was aware of Evans' arrest.

"We will not condone this type of behavior," Cameron said. "I assure everyone it will be dealt with seriously."

Evans' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, didn't immediately return a call seeking comment.
The whole disrespect for an officer thing is the worst part of his story which is translates to not respecting authority.
Seem to me that we had a guy by the name of Moss that did something similar.
The fact that Evans was intoxicated I am sure impaired his decision making process.
Main part of this story, is that what Childress said.
He may not be behind Evans as much as the former Dolphin employees are, but he is saying the right things.
You do the due diligence and you make a decision on whether or not you want to take a chance on the guy.

Pat Williams said Evans will be welcomed into the locker room.

"I don't really know him," Williams said. "So everything is fresh with us. I won't ask him about his past. ... We'll just keep everything a clean slate."
That is the right attitude Pat!

We didn't address the DT spot in the draft like we should have.
    This is what we get.

Everything starts up front on O and D.
Our coaches said something similar to that and they didn't do a darn thing about it.

Once again, Evans still has to make this team.
He will probably get suspended, we will have plenty of time to watch his behavior before he can really get in trouble and before he takes many snaps on the field in a regular season game.

    Re: Vikings sign Fred Evans

Personally, I just don't get this - the vikings make a big deal about cleaning up the team after the love boat thing, so they demonize Smoot while at the same time giving a huge contract to McKinney and Kevin Williams (domestic assault) and bringing in guys like Dwight Smith and Doss (both with history of gun play), Koren Robinson (gin), and now Fred Evans. I'm not saying we need a team of mormons, but show some consistency. If character matters, don't sign these guys. If winning matters, don't grandstand on your new conduct policy. I'm tired of the double talk.
