    Vikings Sign CB Jacob Lacey

The Minnesota Vikings announced the signing of cornerback Jacob Lacey on Monday, as noted by Aaron Wilson of The Baltimore Sun. Lacey was one of the better cornerbacks available on the open market.

A quick gander on Lacey from PFF has him with a -4.8 coverage grade. So sub par, but an upgrade on Sherels (he might have had a -4.8 the second half against GB Week 17 alone...) and competition for Robinson and Jefferson. Good depth move I guess but nothing else.

Edit: that is from 2011 season with Indy. I'll try and find last year's.

I think this is a camp fodder / depth move.

we should see a lot of this as teams stock pile bodies to find those depth players, maybe even some rare gem sitting somewhere.

Nothing wrong with adding depth at positions we were weak in last year. Let them compete

With the addition of Patteson, I could see Sherels gone this year. In the end, he wasn't on the team because of his coverage skills.

I'm not sure I like them adding more bodies to the roster going into camp for this position. Again, we have 3 on the roster with starting experience (Cook, Jeff, Rob) and a real promising prospect drafted this year that should be able to start. Why do you need all the other cats to figure out who the 5th guy is going to be? Heck, my guess is Blanton could step back and play CB if asked and be better than this cat.

    20 Cook, Chris CB 6-2 212 26 3 Virginia
    31 Felder, Bobby CB 6-1 200 22 0 Nicholls State
    Lacey, Jacob CB 5-10 177 25 5 Oklahoma State
    McCoy, Greg CB 5-10 178 24 0 TCU
    21 Robinson, Josh CB 5-10 199 21 0 Central Florida
    35 Sherels, Marcus CB 5-10 175 25 2 Minnesota
    39 Taylor, Nicholas DB 5-9 165 25 0 Florida International
    Williams, Roderick DB 5-10 180 25 0 Alcorn State

You forgot Jefferson. I would be surprised if these 4 don't make the final roster (Cook, Rhodes, Robinson and AJ).

Isn't Xavier Rhodes missing from that list too? Or am I missing something?

Looks like I just didn't grab them all. In the end, we have a butt load of CB's on the roster competing for one position.

Why add more when we could use those spots for some LB'rs, DT's, WRs etc.
