Here is where Rick starts to screw the pooch.
We didn't want this guy. We wanted the kid from Towson.
Used a 3rd rounder on a guy that played Qb and doesn't have a position.

I just don't like what he does from pick 3 - 6. He often hits in the 4th but other than that. No gems, just iron (decent players who start for us).

He did as well as any player at any position, at least in terms of showing off his raw athletic ability. McKinnon ran a 4.41-second 40-yard dash, had a 40.5-inch vertical jump, broad-jumped 11 feet, and bench pressed 225 pounds a whopping 32 times. The Wall Street Journal crunched all the numbers from the Combine and concluded that no player at any position did better than McKinnon in all the various measurements of strength, speed and athletic ability.

Well there's no doubt he's a hell of an athlete but reading just one scouting report it had him as a decent blocker and not much of a receiver out of the back field. Obviously those would be 2 expectations of him here.

Interested to see how well he can do.

McKinnon was a monster at the combine.

He is faster and stronger than Terrance West.

McKinnon had the best score of all running backs in every area he tested in for the combine.

It looks like the Vikings are using metrics now. They are getting supreme athletes, much like the Seahawks did over the past few seasons, to put on the field.

One has to question if McKinnon would have been available in a later round. He is a superb athlete, but he is raw as a running back.

Then again, how many players in the draft are that strong with that speed?

Impressive athletic specimen without a doubt! 4.4 forty and 32 reps at only 209 lbs!? Huge vert of 40.5" and a nice 3-cone time too...

But, bit of a tweener with out much experience at any one position. Does not sound like he's been used much as a receiver, but his athletic ability could potentially make him very dangerous as a Sproles type change of pace player for us in Turner's offense.

Again, I like the pick, but thought CB or LG might be bigger needs. Still some decent OG/Cs on the board tho, and some decent CBs like Roberson and McGill still out there too. All told, I'm pretty pleased with all of our picks thus far.

Hmmm, got to wonder if they might give him a look at CB with those combine numbers...plenty of speed to keep up and some serious leap to knock balls away.

Project players of this typ should not be taken in the 3rd round when we have as many needs as we do. Combine numbers are just that, combine numbers. He is a huge work in progress.

Vikings select RB Jerick McKinnon in 3rd round

I'd rather have someone who knows how to play a position rather than be statistically a great athlete. Webb being a case in point.
