I'm sick of 5-6 teams. There are nine of them. They're all in contention for something or other. If I were commissioner I'd outlaw them. And as for the 6-5s? Why, they are royalty, practically assured of a berth in what promises to be the dullest first two weeks of the playoffs in history. But one of those 5-6 teams is Philadelphia, which put up such a good fight against New England. That was the voice of reason speaking, and its reward is that from now on it will wear a muzzle. And here comes something that never will be muzzled, and you know what that is.

They ran the ball smartly against the Giants, without Adrian Peterson. They came into the Meadowlands as the 31st-ranked pass defense and picked off Eli four times. Someone, please, help me figure out what all this means.

confusing season for vikings fans indeed...

Washington Redskins (5-6)
The irony is that he was just starting to play at an all-pro level, after making a reputation as a big hitter. Perhaps this is only a pipe dream, but maybe Sean Taylor's elevated status would have helped tone down a lifestyle that many people felt would end in disaster. Now it's all up in smoke. A tragedy, another young life wasted.

Any Given Sunday Anything can and usually does happen around the League.

Even matchups.....equal talent on NFC teams and most AFC for that matter this season makes it likely you will have a lot of teams hovering around .500 and still have a playoff shot late into the season. This is exactly what the NFL wants to see. There are usually a hand full of teams (3-4) that break out in both the AFC and NFC and that rotates often so fans all over the NFL can stay excited. The last thing the NFL wants to see are long term dynasties anymore. Imposed cap restrictions were brought into play to help keep that from happening. With one or two exceptions....it seems to be working.
