Vikings roster moves updates: Jennings, Miller
Vikings fail to get receiver
Vikings coach Brad Childress said earlier today that the team might be putting in a waiver claim but made it clear it should not be assumed the player was a cornerback. Turns out the guy in whom the Vikings had interest was receiver Adam Jennings, who had been released by Atlanta.
The reality of the situation was the Vikings never had a shot at Jennings. He ended up going to the Detroit Lions. Considering the Lions are 0-9, and the team with the worse record gets priority in waiver situations, Minnesota wasn’t where Jennings was going to land.
Jennings has experience returning both kicks and punts in his career. He was not used on kickoff returns this season but had returned 23 punts for an average of 6.6 yards this season. It’s clear the Vikings are exploring their options in the return game, especially now that punt-return man Charles Gordon has been lost for the season. Jennings lost the return job two games ago after a costly error that is described in this piece in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Other notes:
- The Oakland Raiders ended up getting Justin Miller, who was released by the Jets on Tuesday. The Vikings did not put in a waiver claim on Miller. The Broncos and Dolphins also tried to claim Miller, according to the NFL Network. The Raiders had the worst record of those teams.
