Did Oher get help, yes, but there were several plays were JA was "routed" out of the play which opened the gap he had responsibility for which in turn exposed our guys at the next level.

That run by Rice were JA was taken outside at the same time Chad and STJ were crashing down into the box was absolutely embarrasing resulting in one of 2 quick TD's in the 4th.

Long story short, the rookie played JA better than I thought he would.
JA should at least admit that.

I also thought that for a rookie, or anyplayer for that matter, Oher stood his ground well for most the day and did a good job at blocking Allen....Grade C+

If not mistaken Marr, on that First Rice run for a TD,
Oher wasn't even blocking JA, they had Heap the TE lined up outside of Oher, in a tight formation on the line, and Heap took JA to the outside and past the runner.... Check your game films...

You might be right Ned.
If that is the case then he really is out of line.
Hell, most of us know a TE can't block a quality DE all by himself.

At least thats what I learned on here when people were hacking on the staff and Shanc for messing up doing it.

I'de have to look it up Marr, but I bet Heap is just as big as JA and probably darn close in quickness, seeing he's a TE.
Heap is an above average TE, known for solid blocking and good hands.
On that play, he just let JA use his own speed and upfield rush to take him past he play and to the outside of it.
JA sometimes does that to himself, gets that great burst up and out, rushing himself right past the play....It's about the only thing JA does that I don't like sometimes. " Takes Himself out of plays with his great speed "

I classify Heap as a "Inline TE".
A guy who can block and catch a pass along the lines of Shanc.
He definately isn't a Hybrid "Mills" type of guy who only comes in on passing downs.

As to JA and taking himself out.......I have kindof resolved myself to the idea that his play is more good than bad.
I kindof look the other way when he does it.

Re: Vikings - Ravens Post-game Articles - Jared Allen Interview

We are in Nickel.
Our 2 LBs start to Blitz on KW and RE side of the line, opposite of JA.
JA runs up field and the Tackle nudges him in that direction up field .
Meanwhile the NB and the CB are covering WRs leaving our Safety (TJ) there cover the HUGE hole left by JA.
That play didn't work well for TJ, the NB or the CB.
Rice ran through that hole and didn't have to do much to get to the end zone.

Needs to be more team work and getting on the same page.
Oh and no more flubbing the tackle when you are the last line of defense.

With that said, the play was a nice play call by the Ravens, knowing that gap would be open because of JA going upfield so far all day and knowing the LBs were on the other side.
Bad chess match!

31 - 30 game with no turnovers?
I questioned the Chiller on this but damn if he wasn't right.

From that blog article:
As it was, the Vikings barely overcame bad coaching and bad defense and scratched out a win. The Vikings will be viewed by the national media as more lucky than anything else and a fluke. I know I shouldn't worry about what the national media has to say, but, regardless of them, I wanted to see a complete game from this Vikings squad and it almost happened, but it didn't.
All I have to say is that who cares how it is viewed by the media.
Some things aren't as they appear.
Just look at the problems that the Broncos org had with the QB, WR and coach.
Now look where they are at.
Look at the Colts and the supposed problems there in the offseason between the coaching staff.
Now look where they are at.
Point is if we are truly a good team it won't matter what others think is going to happen.
I think we got a good group of guys in that locker room that will regroup.
Johnson, Sapp and Paymah are going to have to step it up a notch if AW is not out there, or they are going to be exposed on a weekly basis.

Vikings far from perfect, despite flawless record

A prime example occurred on the Vikings' final possession, with the Ravens clinging to a 31-30 lead. With just under three minutes to play, Favre and Rice adlibbed. As Favre looked downfield, Rice changed his route and went deep. Favre read it and threw long. Rice got a step on Ravens cornerback Frank Walker, forcing Walker to grab Rice's jersey. A flag was thrown, but Rice caught the pass anyway, good for 58 yards to set up the Vikings' game-winning field goal.

Does that play happen last season for the Favre-less Vikings? No way.

I heard this yesterday and have read it 4 times since.
Can't believe a certain crowd hasn't had it plastered all over the site.

Not sure what crowd that is, but I am sure they are tired of trying to make the point!

Shanc seems to think it is a good thing.
Our record makes it seem like a good thing.

From article:
"We didn't have this kind of balance before," tight end Visanthe Shiancoe said after the Vikings won Sunday's 33-31 thriller over the Ravens. "We used to be a running team that had a great defense. Now, we've got all phases."
