Thread: Vikings Practice Squad eligibility, rules, and first roster...

Here at 7AM CST I have not seen the earliest returns on WHO the Vikings may assign to their Practice Squad. It is interesting to see how it works:

Instructions
Size of the Squad
Step 1:
Currently each NFL practice squad is composed of eight players beyond the required 53-man roster.
Game Day
Step 1:
Practice squad players are not allowed to play on game day without becoming an active part of the roster prior to the game. If a player is signed to the active roster, then one of the previously existing 53 players must be cut.
Pay
Step 1:
The minimum pay for practice squad players is $5,200 per week during the season. Teams can actually pay the players more than the minimum should they so desire, although typically the practice squad members do not warrant such consideration in the eyes of the team.
Free Agents
Step 1:
All players on the practice squad are free agents and are available to be signed should another NFL team wish to sign them to their active rosters.
Limitations
Step 1:
A player may only be a member of the practice squad for two years, unless the team for which the player has been under contract with during the previous two seasons never had less than 53 players during his time on the team. A term of three weeks qualifies as a season.
Rules for the Team
Step 1:
Teams are not required to have the maximum eight players on their team. Teams are also allowed to have nine players if the ninth player is considered by the NFL to be an "international player."

** REMEMBER, even IF we sign a player to our Practice Squad; any other Team can take him IF they put him on their Active Roster.

Now that the Vikings have established their 53-man roster, the team can start signing players to their eight-man practice squad at 11 a.m.

The big question will be whether quarterback John David Booty gets claimed off waivers. The Vikings likely would like to have him on their practice squad if he’s still available.

I think a lot of people also would like to see former Boise State running back Ian Johnson get signed to the practice squad. Johnson showed some potential this preseason and had his best effort Friday against Dallas.


Tight end Garrett Mills is eligible for the practice squad, but it’s a good bet that he will get claimed by somebody.

I don't see why they would have to give credit for facts? I mean it would be nice to see where they got it, but it is not plagarism or anything.

Ideally, I'd like to see Johnson, Radovich, Grigsby, and perhaps Herron signed to the squad. I really couldn't care less about the rest of the scrubs cut yesterday.

It is if you copy and paste it(Like this is), and not give credit for it and Webby has gotten in trouble for it. That is what plagiarism is.

Nice post. My wife just asked me how many players are on the squad and how much they get paid. Didn't know, but now I do. Thumbs up.
