(Vikings) Personnel staff are up for restructuring

Personnel staff are up for restructuring
Kevin Seifert, Star Tribune

After completing its inaugural draft together this weekend, the next order of business for the Vikings' front office likely will entail a long-awaited restructuring of the personnel department.

Fran Foley, the new vice president of player personnel, has spent the past three months evaluating scouts and other members of the department, whose contracts expire May 31. It is not yet clear how significant the changes could be. But it seems likely the team at least will add a position for director of pro personnel, a job that could be filled from outside or inside the organization.

The position has been unfilled since last summer, when Paul Wiggin took a senior consultant's role. Jeff Robinson, coordinator of pro personnel, has been sharing the job with pro scouts Frank Acevedo and Ryan Monnens since then.

Meanwhile, it seems highly likely that Scott Studwell will remain in his current job as director of college scouting.

THAT'S GOOD NEWS!

Studwell better be kept. After all he has done for the Vikings, it would for sure put a black mark against Fran Foley if he let Studwell go.

Vikings sign 4 vice presidents to contracts

Associated Press

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. - Four Vikings vice presidents who oversee business operations were signed Monday to three-year contracts, the team said in a news release.

The executives signed include Lester Bagley, vice president of public affairs and stadium development; Steve LaCroix, vice president of sales and marketing; Steve Poppen, vice president of finance; and Kevin Warren, vice president of operations and legal counsel.

"We feel that we have a young and talented group that has provided strong leadership in our daily activities," Vikings owner Zygi Wilf said in a statement. "These four men have been instrumental in the transition for our partnership group as we approach our first anniversary of ownership."

Bagley has worked as a public affairs consultant for the team since 2000 and became the point person on stadium issues last year. LaCroix is entering his sixth season with the team and has overseen record-setting numbers in sales and sponsorships. Poppen joined the Vikings as director of finance in 1999. And Warren joined the team in 2005 after holding executive positions with the St. Louis Rams and Detroit Lions.

It's not the size of the staff, it's the quality of it that will make the difference.

Tice never had that luxury with the McCombs budget.

How did the Jags rate with their draft?
