Vikings-Packers open season on Monday night

The NFL will announce this afternoon that the Vikings will play the Green Bay Packers in the Monday night opener at 6 p.m. Sept. 8 on ESPN, according to an industry source. As has become the custom, it will be the first game of a Monday night doubleheader on the network. The game is expected to be played at Lambeau Field and will be the first for the Packers in the post-Brett Favre era. (Do you think there will be a little talk about Favre that night?)

I love it!
Get the Lambeau trip out of the way early in the season, and open up by destroying a division opponent in their house!

This is the sixth time in history we have opened up against the Packers.
And every time it has been at Lambeau.

We'll get to set the tone early!

This is good too because we get to play in Lambau early in the season as opposed to late when the cold weather could be a factor.

I'm surprised.
The Packers, honestly, are no longer a national draw w/out Favre.
Looking at the Vikings' 2008 opponents, I would have picked the games against Indy, the Giants, the Jags or the Saints.

The story of "Favre not playing" is only meaningful right up until kick-off.
And then it becomes the Aaron Rogers Era.
Is that really compelling for prime-time?

I think people will be interested in seeing Rodgers.

Also remember MNF doesn't have the premiere matchups anymore. Thats for Sunday Night Football.

It is meaningful the entire game.
There will be a lot of people tuning in to see if Green Bay can win without Fav-re.
And put it in a divisional matchup against the team many favor to win the division...
I think it will be a huge game!
