Vikings owner is ready to talk stadium plans with legislators

The Minnesota Vikings will present a stadium financing proposal to the 2008 Legislature, owner Zygi Wilf said Tuesday, clarifying his plans after a summer of indecision.
For the first time, however, Wilf said the Vikings will derive almost no profit from a new facility. He cited additional debt service and a projected decrease in NFL revenue sharing.
Wilf tried to recast the 10-year stadium debate as a "quality of life" issue...

Unfortunate timing:
it may not be rational, but it's a fact that this would be a lot easier with a winning team.
I wish Zigi would stop with the "we're not going to make any more revenue with a new stadium" horse hockey.
If you're asking for the public dollar, treat the public as a partner and open your books and stop playing accounting games.

He didn't say revenue.
He said profit.
If the Vikings move up in the amount of revenue they bring in, they will lose a considerable amount of money from the profit sharing in the league.
Honestly, I think the city stands to make more money on a new stadium than the Vikings do.

I'm still betting that rather than building a new stadium there will be a major remodeling of the "bubble" and that the Vikes will play at the new Gopher stadium in 2010 or 2011 while that reconstruction is going on.

I wouldn't be opposed to that, but I just don't know if it would be financially feasible.
In order to bring the dome up to current NFL standards, they would spend as much as it would take to build a new one anyway...
We would have to add an entire level of suites without taking away general admission seats.
In fact, we would have to add more gen admission seats anyway if we wanted to host a superbowl.
Then we would need to widen concourses, add concessions, increase the number of bathrooms tenfold, and fix the plumbing problems.
