The Vikings Offensive Line is a Bleeping Mess

The general consensus after the first preseason game is that the Vikings‘ offensive line looks about as stout as a group of fourth graders attempting to protect their school from a 50-ft tsunami by standing in front of it with their arms interlocked. Yes it was that brutal at times. I don’t want to suggest Steve Hutchinson looked washed-up on that one 3rd-and-short play, but the only other time I remember a grown man going backward that fast it was because he got too close to a jet engine.

Goddamnit, I get so pissed off by internet cocks who quote "general consensus" shit. Sorry PP.O, but, who the fuck is this guy?

What do you think? What is the "general consensus" of PP.O?

My take, a total work in progress. Good grief.....excuse me, I need to leave here, the sky is actually falling.

Vikings O-line needs playing time in new scheme, which brings injury risk

Sorry Leslie, but you can't simply treat the OL with kid gloves all preseason & send them out there unprepared for the first part of the season & hope they "get it" & gel somewhere near mid-season.

It'll not only costs you games, but forces your QB to take the beating at the expensive of your OL learning a new system during the regular season games rather than during the softer preseason.

It won't be comforting to me, when our QB gets injured behind a confused, un-geled & unprepared OL & coach Frazier tells us not to worry because while they're not playing good together as a unit, at least the OL is still healthy.

I'd like to see us try switching Loadholt to LT and Charlie Johnson to RT. Charlie is very undersized, and struggling badly already. Not saying that Loadholt would be a stellar LT for us. But he is big, young, and has a lot of potential. He just needs to make a lot less penalties.

Sorry Rick! Keep up the good work.

Loadholt is way too big to be effective at LT. He would be a major liability there against fast pass rushers.

For some reason I cannot edit my last post ... so I will just respond again with the numbers.

Loadholt is WAY too big to be an effective LT. He would likely have to shed at least 20 pounds to be effective there.

    - Loadholt is 343 pounds. The LARGEST LTs in the game last year were Bryant McKinnie and Marcus McNeill at 335 a piece.
    - There were only NINE LTs in the entire NFL that weighed more than 319 pounds last season.
    - The elite guys are all "small" and quick. Joe Thomas is 311, Jake Long is 315, D'Brickashaw Ferguson is a svelte 295, Jordan Gross is 300, Matt Light comes in at 305.
    - The AVERAGE LT last season weighed 310 pounds.

Loadholt was drafted as a RT for a reason. He is WAY to large to deal with the serious pass rushers in this league.

Re: The Vikings OL is a Bleeping Mess

But would you rather have an undersized LT over an oversized LT? I'm not saying he would be great. I'd just like to see us try it. Load may get worked by speedy pass rushers, but Charlie is going to get worked by big bull-rushing pass rushers like Jared Allen. From what I've been reading, Allen has been absolutely embarrassing him.

Sorry Rick! Keep up the good work.
