Yeah ... this is pretty much a no-brainer. I think that his option number would have been pretty high, somewhere near $10 million I think.

I like Christian a lot. I think he was put in a very bad situation by being drafted so high, which forced him into playing earlier than he should have. I think he could work in the right offense, but it has not been here and will not likely be with Norv Turner. He just is not Round 1, Pick 12 material ... and trying to live up to that will always haunt him.

I suspect he will bounce around as a backup with some starts here and there for the rest of his career, but I would not be shocked if he is not even on our roster come fall.

In hard knocks, you see coaches tell their players all the time, "Stop thinking and just react!!" This is Ponder's biggest hurdle to overcome, and he hasn't done it yet. When he gets flushed out of the pocket and is forced to make a quick decision, he does well.

But when teams give him time, he locks up, doesn't make ANY decisions, and then forces passes. Worst, his accuracy goes to shit. He is most definitely too smart for the job he is doing. He needs to sit on the bench for awhile, and maybe then the great QB in him will come out.

That will NOT happen with the vikings.

Ponder was a victim of being drafted by a team with bad coaching . Period

He definitely was a victim of that. But so was Patterson and he performed. Those same coaches had plenty of other players who performed just fine.

He was a victim of bad coaching. That is a likely fact. He was also a victim of shitty play by his own self. That is a fact.

So his inability to throw the out route, is the coaches fault?
Where does the Gm fall for drafting ponder 12th?
Remind me again who looked at the Ponder pick up and said... sleep of the draft at 12th?
    Or were we laughed at.

Remember, Ponder did as well pre-draft as Garapolo is doing now (which is why that guy scares the hell out of me). Spielman was worried about our QB situation, and fell into the trap a lot of GMs do... he saw what he wanted to see, and ignored everything else that warned him away. It has been done the same way by some of the greatest GMs we have had in the NFL, so though it upset me,, I try to keep in mind it was one pick in one draft that didn't work out.

I like seeing our GM and Coaches taking chances to improve our team, as long as they do not bet the farm on those chances. If our #8 this year goes for naught, it will suck, but it won't be the end of the world. But if we trade up, it had better be for Mack or Clowney; otherwise, we have not only bet the farm on a chancy QB, but we also bet next year's farm.

That would REALLY piss me off!!!

I am in no way saying Ponder was good or will be. But to say he was put in a good situation to succeed. Musgrave was a horrible OC. To say well Patterson performed why not Ponder, playing QB in the NFL is a lot harder than playing WR. None of the QBs from that draft have had great success. Cam has had some success. He was drafted before he should have been, he started before he should have. He played behind our porous pass blocking line last year. He would have been better served to have sat for a couple of years and learned to be a QB in NFL.

Your opinion is your own but it's pretty silly to say Cam has had some success. He only set almost every Rookie passing record and just took his team to a 13-3. Lets not forget that he is on a team pretty void of talent on the offensive side. RBs that are now fogettable, 1 34 year old wrs and a TE. They guy is gonna be a star once he gets some weapons.

Lets be honest, Carolina's defense was the reason for 13-3 record. I do believe having good rookie year and being a big part of 13 win team. Would qualify as SOME success. How many playoff games has he won. How many championships? That is success. I didnt say he wasnt a good QB. I like watchin him play, he is a dynamic player in this league.
