Re: Vikings: Need a hole? Richardson's your man

Richardson's blocking ability certainly has been noticed in the past. He earned trips to the Pro Bowl in 2003 and 2004 when he was leading the way for Priest Holmes and then Larry Johnson. Taylor is now the beneficiary.

"He's a great guy to run behind," said Taylor, who rushed for a season-high 123 yards against Detroit two weeks ago before the Vikings' bye. "He goes in the hole, he finishes guys, he doesn't quit. He just works his way up to the next guy."
If that's the case, why isn't Taylor getting more yards? It's because the holes are getting plugged up.

Taylor needs to follow the big man through the hole. He likes to cut back his runs, which works sometimes but I think he'd be better off doing what Holmes did and follow TR's lead. He cut one back near the Detroit goal line at the end of third quarter, if he would have followed Troy he could have walked into the end zone, he ended up getting stuffed. Still, the longer they play together the more chemistry they'll have. More Vikes that have to 'gel".

I agree with two points from previous posts.
1 that T-Rich is not playing on enough of the "running downs" and 2 that Taylor is not following the lead and is looking to cut it back too soon.
From what i've seen, when he follows Richardson, Taylor picks up more yards than when he tries for the "big" play by cutting it back against the grain.

I know. I was wondering that also. I was waiting to see how long it would take before Cajun made a comment about it.
