Vikes hire Va Tech's Rogers as quarterbacks coach
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- The Vikings added Virginia Tech quarterbacks coach Kevin Rogers to their staff on Wednesday to serve in the same capacity for Minnesota under new head coach Brad Childress.
Rogers, who has been an assistant for 27 years at the college level, worked with quarterback Donovan McNabb during four of his eight seasons at Syracuse -- where he worked until moving to Notre Dame in 1999. Rogers has been with the Hokies since 2002.
Childress helped develop McNabb in the NFL with Philadelphia, where he was the offensive coordinator since 2001 before being hired by the Vikings to replace the fired Mike Tice. After hiring Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive backs coach Mike Tomlin to be his defensive coordinator, Childress now has two spots on his staff filled

I think this is a great move look at what he did with McNabb and how great he made Bryan Randall look last year at Va Tech.

Isn't a bit funny that they hire a QB coach before they hire an Offensive Coordinator?

Smartest move we ever did was getting Childress right away so he could put a staff together while other teams are still dragging their heels. We get the "cream of the crop" while they are stuck with second picking leftovers.

According to PA on KFAN today the OC will be in place most likely by Friday and it will be Darren Bevell who was the QB coach for the Packers. It also looks like we will be hiring a RB coach very soon as well here is a link to the story.Isn't a bit funny that they hire a QB coach before they hire an Offensive Coordinator?

I doubt that he had a say in the hire but these guys are probably all familiar with each other. The OC will not matter all that much because Childress is an offensive coach and will call the plays but running the D will be strictly as Tomlin sees fit. The whole situation sounds familiar to what took place in Philly."DarrinNelsonguy" wrote:

The main thing is theat we get a staff in place to start scouting players in the Senior Bowl and to evaluate the talent that is in hand already."Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn t work hard."
