    Vikings HCs: A myopic view.

Welcome to a myopic look at the Vikings' former HCs.

    Norman Van Brocklin (1961-1967)
    32-59-7 (36% wins)

    Bud Grant (1968-1983, 1985)
    155-88-2 (64% wins)

    Les Steckel (1984)
    3-13 (19% wins)

    Jerry Burns (1986-1991)
    52-43 (55% wins)

    Dennis Green (1992-2001)
    97-63 (61% wins)

    Mike Tice (2002-2005)
    32-32 (50% wins)

    Brad Childress (2006-?)
    ?-?

Rank the former HCs by winning percentage and you get:

    Bud Grant (64% wins)
    Denny Green (61% wins)
    Jerry Burns (55% wins)
    Mike Tice (50% wins)
    Norman Van Brocklin (36% wins)
    Les Steckel (19% wins)

So where, oh where, will Mr. Childress fall into the ranks of Vikings HC lore?

i'm going to guess somewhere after denny green. with the players we've got now, its very possible to go 10-6 which is 62.5% now i doubt they can manage that every year, but i expect some years to be bettter and some to be worse. i'd say somewhere around 60% is realistic.

Guess we gotta add a word to the word censor.

I opted for the "poophole" trifecta.

Is this just regular season? If so, Denny green should have one less loss (he didn't coach the last game of 2001, did he?).

Anyway, Denny finished with an average pretty close to 10-6, and this is right around where I think Childress will average after a couple of years. However, I expect Childress's record in the playoffs to be much, much better.

    Brad Childress (2006 - 2026)

    240-75-5 (75% wins)

That's JUST factoring regular season games. LOL

No disrespect meant...but I hope that he ranks ahead of the great Bud Grant in winning percentage...and brings home 4 or 5 Super Bowls!

It's going to be hard to compete with Denny, and I think being as successful as Grant will be hard for anyone, but I think that Childress has the potential to be pretty damn good. I say 2nd next to Bud.

yea, exactly, i hope he ranks above Grant in percentage, but Bud Grant will always be the best coach of the vikings, lets say some where down the line some coach coaches longer, has more wins, brings us some superbowls, etc |(hopefully childress! lol)

yes, he'll be a great coach, but Grant was the first to bring us to glory, so he'll always be our coach <3

Lets hope Childress can be compared to "Coach Bud Grant", when its all said and done. We need that Lambardi Trophy.... Now, Can the new regime bring us to greatness Burnsy, Green, And Grant enjoyed? I Think So. Skol Vikings.
