Vikings have new faces, but the right ones?
Vikings have new faces, but the right ones?
By Jim Corbett, USA TODAY
The biggest winner of the Minnesota Vikings' offense-laden 2007 draft class? How about second-year quarterback Tarvaris Jackson.

I didn't really stop to think how loaded we are at SS until reading that article.
Tank, Smith, Doss and Blue. . . quite a nice group of players.
It's gonna help the secondary, and I've been a huge Greenway guy since he was in college, and he's definitely going to help coverage.
The boy also plays pretty fast, which is nice.
Another good point in the article checked me on a lot of things.
Without being able to stretch the field, the Vikings faced a loaded front against their run game.
We should remember that a bit when talking about Taylor (or at least, *I* should).

Re: Vikings have new faces, but the right ones?
Thanks for the article Singer.
I've said before we weren't too far off last year even though the record was 6-10.
They wereusually just 1 or 2 plays away from winning most games.
I hope getting Greenway in will help the defense stop those 10-20 yard passes and YACs.
They killed the Vikings last year.
I like the additions on offense.
I just wish we would get that one veteran at WR.
I like the youth.
So much potential but many questions.
Rice will be a nice addition.
I really like Allison.
I think he's going to surprise a lot of people.
I love getting him in the 5th round.

I get to read a really decent article and am happy to post on it. Strong Ground Game, a very solid secondary. basically it going up to the passing attack and how far it can take us is the big question......SUSPENSFUL writing. making me wish for the season to just start already.

Yeah, I liked that one too!!
Good points!!
One thing people don't mention, is that 6 of our 10 losses last year were by a touchdown or less!!
Several by 2 or 3 points...Defense keeps us in games!
If the oline improves, we might be tougher than advertised, and I love that nobody is giving us any credit!

Re: Vikings have new faces, but the right ones?
Pretty good read.
I should hope so....if he turns out well hopefully he will retire a Viking."I don't see any reason why Adrian Peterson shouldn't be a superstar right away," Smith says. "I'm the all-time Vikings leading rusher (6,818 yards). I fully expect that title to be handed over to Adrian in the next decade. I did most of that running in the last four years of my career. It's definitely a reachable record for Adrian."
Taylor has a good chance of breaking that record as well.
I can agree about Longwell but Kluwe was asked to do more directional kicking last year then power. Moore is a very good punt returner, didn't he lead the league in PR average a couple years ago? But this guy also forgot about Charles Gordan, Allison and Williams.Special teams: Kicker Ryan Longwell struggled beyond 40 yards (4-for-8) but was 16 of 17 inside that range. Punter Chris Kluwe was inconsistent, and Moore is average as a punt returner. Wade or Williamson might return kicks.
This guy couldn't have described Jackson better: ExcitingQuarterback: Tarvaris Jackson has a strong arm and exciting potential. His development will depend heavily on the help he receives from his supporting cast. Brooks Bollinger will get a chance to compete with Jackson.
Jackson is a good learner and he has the physical attributes plus he has amazing work ethic. I really hope this guy turns out."Tarvaris is a very bright-eyed guy who understands football," Childress says. "He generally can take what you tell him to the field on the next snap."

Thanks Josdin00 for the sig!

New Faces May Not Be Enough For Vikings

USA Today continues its somewhat bizarre spring previews team by team with a look at the Vikings. It's neither optimistic or negative, but it does include some interesting comments that seem to be a little bit off base.

Re: Vikings have new faces, but the right ones?
IF TJack can connect with his new WRs on a regular basis, our offense will ROCK!!!
The rest of the Vikings offense is golden!
On defense, if our back seven can get it together on passing downs, and get some help via the pass rush, our defense could be dominant as well.
All in all, we could suck or we could be a very good team...I think that mistakes, or lack thereof, will define our success or failure...I don't see us at 8-8...it will be either boom or bust this season!BANNED OR DEAD...I'LL TAKE EITHER ONE

Certainly not a bold prediction there.
