Vikings Harris, likely to hit open market...

Vikings likely to let Harris hit open market

INDIANAPOLIS - It looks as if middle linebacker Napoleon Harris and the four other Vikings set to become unrestricted free agents will hit the open market a week from today.
"For the most part, the guys that we have not signed, we'll probably let go out and let them determine what their market value is," Rick Spielman, the Vikings' vice president of player personnel, said Thursday at the NFL scouting combine.

The Vikings have yet to announce it, but veteran safety Tank Williams, who missed all of last season because of a fractured kneecap, agreed to a one-year contract this week. That leaves receivers Bethel Johnson and Travis Taylor; defensive tackle Ross Kolodziej, and offensive lineman Jason Whittle among the unsigned.

Spielman acknowledged Harris' agent, Mike Sullivan, has had talks with Vikings vice president of football operations Rob Brzezinski. "If there's an opportunity for us to get Napo back we'd love to have him," Spielman said.

    Etc.

    • Ohio State receiver-returner Ted Ginn Jr. said he's worth a top-10 draft pick, and thinks a natural fit would be the Vikings, who need a receiver and a kickoff returner. "It would be great to go to Minnesota and be the guy," said Ginn, who is recovering from a mid-foot sprain. "I just hope that people up there can see that."

    • Gophers tight end Matt Spaeth, a projected mid-round draft pick, doesn't care where his opportunity comes from, as long as he gets one. "Being back home for a couple of days, a lot of people were like, 'Wouldn't it be great to play for the Vikings?' " Spaeth said. "And I'd say, 'Yeah, it would be great to play for the Vikings. But it would be great to play for anybody, really.' " Spaeth is coming off a shoulder injury and won't participate in any of the physical drills Saturday.

I LOVE THE SMELL OF VICTORY IN THE MORNING AIR.
