Vikings guilty of sideline antics against Bears?
WTF was Henderson thinking?
Sideline Shenanigans: Vikings Player Runs Off the Sideline to Tackle Hester
http://www.clevelandleader.com/node/15521
During Hester's return, Vikings linebacker, Erin Henderson (#50) appears to run off the sideline onto the field in an attempt (a weak one) to tackle Hester and stop him from scoring. As you'll see in the video below, he runs onto the field and fails miserably.

Re: Vikings guilty of sideline antics against Bears?
Are there only four guys on the line at the snap? If so, the Vikings had only ten players on the field, but it is more likely that there were eleven.
I doubt the punter and the refs would both miss that.
In any case, Henderson could not come on the field after the snap and make the tackle legally.

Re: Vikings guilty of sideline antics against Bears?
There were 11 guys on the field before the snap. It was clearly stated in the article.

Why did only one guy go???
Why not clear the bench???
Although it would be pretty embarrassing if 20 or so additional guys still couldn't catch him.
It's what you learn after you know it all that counts.

What would the penalty, in game, be?

Perhaps if the Vikings had a fall guy, maybe a trainer of some sort, that could run out on the field to make the tackle, this would not have happened.

Re: Vikings guilty of sideline antics against Bears?
Actually, looking at the video, I think Erin was blocked out of bounds, and was coming back on to the field of play.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bgTMuMT7NI
Watch the video. I believe it is Erin (#50) who is on the OL at what would be the LT position. He immediately draws two defenders, who stick with him all the way to the sideline and that is where we lose him in the video (last seen in the lower right hand corner at about 0:11). When the same two defenders come back into frame (at 0:14) they are no longer engaged with a Viking. A couple of seconds later (0:16) Erin clearly comes back into frame, from well past the sideline.
My guess, Erin was blocked to the sideline and slipped when he was out of bounds. By the time he got back up and ran back on to the field, Hester was already running by.
I can't quite make out the number of the person on the OL in the video, but given the fact that Erin is NORMALLY on the punt coverage team, I think this makes a helluva lot more sense than him just running onto the field illegally to make a tackle.Zeus wrote:

Re: Vikings guilty of sideline antics against Bears?
I still have the game on my DVR, went to the punt return and snapped this photo of Erin Henderson lined up on left end.
For some reason my photos never post, here's a link to the picture.
I can't believe this is even being discussed. I posted a link to the pic on the guy's blog, too. What an idiot.
