    Vikings Free Agency Review

Ok, think back about three months and you'll remember our free agency period where everyone was upbeat because of our additions.

Obviously, our additions weren't enough. But what I'm wondering is where you guys think the Vikings made a mistake.

    We added:

    Napoleon Harris
    Sam Cowart
    Pat Williams
    Erasmus James
    Fred Smoot
    Darrin Sharper
    Travis Taylor
    Koren Robinson

What would you rate these guys play through the first half of the season?
Which ones were solid moves and which ones were mistakes?

    Thanks PPE for the sig.

Hard to rate sometimes when our coach(es) have a hard time using the gameplan for anything other than wiping the sweat off their butt after getting same handed to them all game.

    Napoleon Harris - BUST
    Sam Cowart - Too Old
Pat Williams - Oh Yeah...Fat Pat!
Erasmus James - Needs to be given a chance to play
    Fred Smoot - Not sure
    Darrin Sharper - Not sure
Travis Taylor - Good pick up
Koren Robinson - Good pick up

    Solid additions-

    Pat Williams (no question)
Erasmus James (is developing into a great lineman)
Fred Smoot (would you want williams at #2?)
    Darrin Sharper
Travis Taylor (cheap boost to our WR corps)
Koren Robinson (great returns...showing some potential again at WR)
Troy Williamson (showed some great signs...streches the field)

heres what i think about our new additions

Napoleon Harris-talented but not productive so far
    Sam Cowart-average LB, very slow
Pat Williams-our best defensive player, outplaying my expectations
Erasmus James-alot of potential like harris, but not playing
Fred Smoot-signs of greatness but then theres last week
Darrin Sharper-i really dont know, hes been burned, but hes made some plays just like smoot
Travis Taylor-very solid, but its hard judging our WR's
Koren Robinson-good returner, average wide out

i would take smoot over williams any day, smoot played bad last week, but williams probably would have found a way to do worse, he can hit and thats about it

    Re: Vikings Free Agency Review

As far as talent goes We had the best FA additions in the NFL. Terrible coaching (Thanks Red) has beaten this team into the ground. I bet almost any other D-Coordinator in the NFL could do great things with these guys.....Our biggest addition next year will be coaches because that's where we're weakest at. It's too bad, because some of these guys (Phat Pat, Darren Sharper, Cowart) only have a few years left in the tank.....If we replace some of these guys who are getting older in FA, sign good coaches (If they are out there, Wilf will get them) and Fonoti and Birk (Culpepper?) come out healthy, it will be a stellar team.

There is nothing wrong with any of the FA we picked up including Nap Harris. Cottrells D plan sucks plain and simple. No one could play well in it. :angry5:

    Re: Vikings Free Agency Review

Harris was obviously a mistake. Sharper was a mistake too, only because we way overpaid for him. We probably overpaid for Smoot too, but not as bad as Winfield. I can't believe our corners suck! I think it's impossible to wear purple and cover at the same time.
