Re: Vikings defense: Strength in numbers
I'm very happy with our defense. It's not their fault that our offense is rocking this year.
The Vikings have the best red-zone defense and has the most sacks. It means that our offense is doing a good job scoring points. Therefore, our defense can focus on preventing the big plays a.k.a. the plays that actually matters. I wouldn't care if we gave up an average of 100000000 yards a game as long as we stop the opponent from scoring. That's what the game is basicly all about. Scoring.
The great thing about this team is that we are very balanced. I truly believe that we have one of the top 5 defenses in the league, and one of the top 5 offenses in the league at the moment. If the offense has troubles scoring, our defense will step up and save the day. That has happened in alot of games last year. And if the defense can't prevent the opposing team from scoring, our offense will score points, like Brett Favre's miracle drive against the 49ers in week 3.
In Vikings' situation:
#1 red-zone defense = great offense = defense focus more on preventing big plays = opposing team can easier reach the red-zone, but that's when the secondary gets an upperhand since there is less ground to cover.
#1 sack defense = great offense = defense focus more on preventing the pass = defense focus more on pass rush, it also allows more blitses and more opportunities to sack the QB.
To sum it up:
#1 red-zone defense + #1 sack defense = Great offense (Vikings is 2nd in total points after week 5)
