IMO, Ponder is not even on the same plane as Kaepernick & were comparing a guy who has 26 starts to Kaepernick who has had 9.Quote:
The biggest difference is at linebacker, where San Francisco has lined up four stellar players.
In just those 9 games, Kaepernick scored 19 TD's while only throwing 4 INT's compared to Ponder who scored 20 TD's, but threw 12 INT's in 16 games. Not to mention Kaepernick averaged 9.6 yards per pass to Ponder's 6.1 which is one of the worst in the league.
In 26 starts, Ponder has averaged over 8 yards or more/pass in only 4 games. Kaepernick has averaged more than 8 yards or more/pass in 7 of his 9 starts.
We beat the niners, so we don't compare favorably, we are better than them!! hahaha
To his defense, we beat the Alex Smith 49ers.
We played Wilson, Luck and RGIII. All losses. Needless to say, our record against athletic rookie QB's wasn't too hot this year.
Crazy to think that of all the awesome rookie QBs this year, Kaepernick is going to the SB.
No kidding C mac D. I think Luck will be the best out of all of em over time, but it was insane what those rookies did this year. Just waiting on the year the vikes find a QB gem like that. I guess Culpepper's first year starting was a damn good year, too bad we didn't have much of a defense at that time :(
We could have had Russell Wilson a couple different times. Always a sobering thought.
We have missed many QBs in the past. Before you find the gems you need to start looking for them.
I think that we are "comparable" to them ... but certainly not in the same league as them.
Could we beat them ... one time ... and hope that luckily it is in the playoffs ... sure. Are we going to be better than them 50% of the time ... no way.
Kaepernick is ridiculously good. Better than anyone could have imagined. We now see why Harbaugh was not so quick to throw a ton of money at Manning last offseason and why they seemed a little reluctant to bring Alex Smith back. Harbaugh knew that Kaepernick was his man ... and he is going to be quite special for many years to come.
Do I think Ponder might be a solid NFL QB ... meh ... maybe. But I already know that Kaepernick, RG III, Russell Wilson, Matt Ryan, Aaron Rodgers, Matthew Stafford, Eli Manning, etc. ARE solid to elite quarterbacks and that is what we have to go through to win the NFC. To say that we are a few linebackers away is probably way off.
