If they build on the current site, I hope the Vikings can put together a better vision than the state did 30 years ago. The dome was supposed to spur development, which it apparantly has not effectively done. Someone told me there is one bar in the area of the dome. I think they could do so much more with that area, to bring down people who do not hav tickets to the game. Imagine bringing people downtown that did not have tickets to the game, they hang out at their favorite tailgate spot for a bit, and head on over to their favorite pub to watch the rest of the game. Seems to me like a true game day experience for some people.
There is nothing down by the Metrodome site, and there likely wont be.I do my thing when I get to the game. I park in the ramp, walk to the tailgate, go to the game, and leave.I come in from out of town for games. There are few suitable hotels within walking distance.
I also always go out to eat after the games and there are few places to eat within walking distance.
If I go to the game with my brother and his friends we go to a bar/resturant after the games. Same problem. The one bar close by is packed.
If it weren't for the activities at the Metrodome people would have little incentive to travel to that crappy part of the city.

There is the $67 million financial hit, not to mention potential logistical nightmares while waiting for Metrodome 2.0. And league owners still would have to sign off on this concept before the Vikings play
oh goodie a new bump in the road

Plus, how do they plan on making the stadium larger in capacity with wider concourses, which they definitely need, without tearing up the infrastructure?
If you look at an aerial map, there's not a lot of wiggle room. There's a possibility of rotating it 90 degrees, but then they lose player, personnel & VIP parking.

Lets not forget there's not a huge viable area for the tailgate experience adjacent to the dome which brings a lot of people to the game. Certainly nothing remotely close to what the old met had.
There's only two small lots next to the dome, the largest of which is owned by the Trib.
What happens if they build the new stadium there & afterwards the Trib decides they will no longer allow tailgating in their lots or ask for an exuberant amount of money that the city/Wilf refuse to pay?

I am not sure what exactly some of those building around the dome are, but is it possible the city or the Vikes may be looking at buying up a bigger footprint for development?
To me it just seems to not make much sense to build down there again if they cannot improve the area.
The problem with that is they need to tear buildings down and dispose of them before they can build anything else and that is way more expensive than building on bare dirt. And the rest of the area is still a cesspool.

It seems like every week there is a "progress made" article followed shortly by a "not so fast" article.
What exactly is the "drop dead" date for all of this? Opening week next year?

i've just decided that i'm not going to care at all about "new progress" or anything like that when it comes to the stadium situation anymore. either it'll get done or the Vikes will play somewhere else next year. As an out of state fan, the financing doesn't affect me at all. I've only been to 3 games at the dome in 6 years so a nicer facility doesn't affect me either. i just want them to get something resolved and have a place to play as the MINNESOTA Vikings from now on.
I'd rather hear that no stadium is going to be built for sure than go through another month of will it happen wont it happen.
