Vikings benefit from improved playing field

The Vikings have seen improvements made to all three of the practice fields on the Minnesota State Mankato campus in recent years. This summer when they arrive for training camp, they will find the playing surface in Blakeslee Stadium also has been upgraded.

The project taking place in the home stadium of the Mavericks calls for new sod to be laid, the crown in the field to be removed and for an improved drainage and irrigation system to be put into place.

Kevin Buisman, athletic director at MSU Mankato, said the original goal was to have FieldTurf installed in Blakeslee, but that plan had to be abandoned last winter when one of three funding sources was denied. Nonetheless, Buisman said these renovations are being done with an eye at going to FieldTurf in two to four years.

Stop whining. It's the off-season and this was a headline in the paper this morning.
