Vikings 2010 Record - History Gives Us a Clue (??)

Finally got a puter in the closet that lets me get access to my favorite pastime........Football and the Vikes......

Anyway, something started brewing in the back of my head a few days ago. What happens to the teams that loose in the NFC and AFC Championship games the next year.

    Using the following link:
    The Football Database

Here is what I came up with:

    a. 49rs (1992/1993) Iggles (2001/2002/203) are the only teams to get back to the Championsip game.

    b. 2 teams equaled (=) thier previous win/loss record

    c. 5 teams bettered (>) thier previous win/loss record

    d. 11 teams had worse (<) records than thier previous win/loss record.

    Re:Vikings 2010 Record - History Gives Us a Clue (??)

So, if I didn't make a mistake when I looked those up, .....

    a. 4 teams had the same win/loss record the next year after they made the championship game.

    b. 8 teams had better win/loss records the next year after they went to the championship game.

    c. 25 teams had worse win/loss records the next year after they went to the championship game.

    d. 3 teams made it back to the championship game the next year (93 49rs/02 and 03 Iggles).

Kindof interesting when one looks at it. I think what would be even more interesting would be what happened on the rosters. Did the teams have:

    a. A loss of QB
    b. A HC change
    c. A change in ownership

    ect.

Right off the top of my head you have a mistake in the VERY first thing you posted.

The 1995 Packers lost the NFC Championship game and the 1996 Packers not only made it back, but won the Super Bowl.

I wouldn't really call them misses. He just went with the records of the last twenty years...not all the way back to the 70's.

I guess I should have actually stated that I only went back to 1990. Thought it was obvious.

Thanks for adding the extra data though. Makes it a better thread.

Thanks my friend. Guess it was obvious, atleast to someone other than me. B)

On a side note, what Midg added gives the whole thread more depth.

Back in the day, before free agency and the hired gun, teams were a bit more consistent because they could hold onto thier players.

That, in and of itself is a whole nother discussion that could/should be looked into.

I think what you meant to say is:

    Favre-led Packers 13-3
    Non-Favre-led Packers 6-10
