Realistically speaking, if we were going to make a push for the post season, THIS was the year to do it.
    Soft schedule, new coach, etc.
With our upcomming schedule, now might be the right to time to "Officially" declare us in rebuilding mode.

While I have no doubt that our Run "D" can stuff any team in the league, our Pass "D" is atroscious and our Offense is currently featured on milk cartons all over the country...."Have You Seen This Offense"?
With the HUGE needs at Offensive skill positions (QB and WR) as well as the need for a pass rush and LB's with cover skills (One might solve the other), we are not poised to match up well with anyone we face next season except Green Bay and Detroit....and possibly Chicago if they continue to draft stupid.

Either way, next season we face a much higher overall caliber of teams than we faced this season.
Childress' "Let's not get too close to the endzone" offense certainly isn't going to cut it next season versus Dallas, Philly, San Diego, Denver, Atlanta, or KC.

Some tough home games there - looks like my 7-1 record seeing the Vikes at the Dome could go to 7-2 if we don't buck up our ideas next season.

As Caine says a tough schedule coming up though it might temper fan expectations and stop people expecting 16-0 seasons in their predictions. This will be a crucial offseason for players and especially coaches, if the coaching staff follow the same pattern as this season then they may not last the full season.
Against teams like this you can't afford to play too conservative as they can and will put points on the board. Our offense will need to be able to score more often than we've seen this year else we could see more games similar to the GB one last week - only not so close
Time spent annoying a Packer fan is never time wasted...

I'd say if we don't have consitency from our QB, WR, and Pass Rush spots we are screwed next year. We need to hit the free agent market hard and have a very productive draft.

I bet T-Will is better next year as long as he isn't the #1 option. If we had him in the slot or a #4 a lot of pressure will be taken off and his hands will start working again.
Wait, if there's cat food in this bag............................

    I wish I shared your optimism....I don't.
Troy took a HUGE step backwards in his development this season.
If he doesn't come out next season with a monster year, he will become another 1st round bust.
Receivers get 3 seasons...he's on his last chance.

Yep, it's next year or bust for Troy. He's either Steve Smith v2 or Todd Pinkston V2.

IF we get a more aggressive OC that actually is entrusted to do the playcalling AND a couple of proven WRs that can actually hang onto the ball (Horn, Bennett) AND TJ steps up and performs well, we just might do better than many might think.
With a more consistent offense, the defense will definitely keep us in games...and we will win alot of games that were close losses this season.
BANNED OR DEAD...I'LL TAKE EITHER ONE

    I absolutely agree with you.
TWill did take a HUGE step backwards, but it was because he was thrust into the number 1 spot before he was ready.
A number 4 spot would be the best thing to ever happen to him.

No one expects to spend 1st round draft pick money on a #4 receiver.
If that is truly "the best thing to ever happen to him" then you are saying, in a round about way, that Troy was/is a 1st round BUST.
Troy had a full season of NOT being the #1 guy to get his legs under him...he failed to do so.

As I said, he has 1 season left to make or break himself.
The sad thing is, he was so horribly ineffective this season, that it will take several years for him to completely erase the stain of this pathetic season.

He shouldn't feel too bad, however, his Head Coach is in the same boat.

Does it really matter who we play next year? With the way Childress's Vikings have degressed this year, we prolly wont be able to beat the lions next year. And I have no pipe dreamns Childress will all of a sudden get it right. It will be another below average years, and people will be saying to give childress yet another year to implemant his offesne
