Re: Vike's should consider resigning Tomlin now!
5 games.
I do not think it would be wise to resign the guy right now lol. We have some explosive offensive teams coming up and honestly I don't think this defense has really been tested yet.
We have time to evaluate him and by we I mean the team not us lol.

I will wait until the end of the season to draw a conclusion there.
Sure they are playing great thus far, but we are a long way from finishing the season.

I don't think this would matter at all IMO he will want to be a head coach and I don't see him passing on that chance when it comes to him.

Re: Vike's should consider resigning Tomlin now!
Ahaha...
Um, he is a first-year coordinator.
We still don't know how he handles the pressure of the games later in the year.
IF he ends up being as good as he seems right now, I'm all for locking him down for a few years. But it has to be after careful analysis of how he handles an entire season.
All that said, he looks to be a guy we can count on thus far, and if he keeps it up, I hope we give him what he's worth.

maybe if childress doesnt pan out he can be our new HC in the next few years.
Its been a while since we had a defensive mind as our HC if ever.
I agree... If Childress doesn't work out, I would like to see Mike Tomlin become our HC.. Lets just hope that they both stay around for a long time..

Re: Vike's should consider resigning Tomlin now!
I suppose I can understand the panick in the minds of many Vikings fans after our last good defensive coordinator was taken away and (judging by the Charlie Weis incident) it seems like there just might be a lot of HC vacancies this off-season and if the Vikings defense does as well for the entire season as we're doing right now then I wouldn't be surprised if teams jumped the gun and gave him a shot now.
I think someone mentioned Eric Mangini, I could see that happening with Tomlin.
However, we aren't going to give a Greg Williams deal at the end of the season let alone 5 games into it.
I doubt if Tomlin will even get a raise after the season and it will be up to him to decide if he wants to wait (like Rex Ryan or Ken Wisenhunt) because he doesn't feel he is ready.
I like Mike Tomlin a lot but we aren't going to give him an extension and hopefully teams won't jump the gun and hire the guy before he is ready for an HC position.
I mean he is only, what, 32?
I would be more worried about him being here for 2008 than 2007.When it s all said and done, you ll have to admit we re number 1!

Re: Vike's should consider resigning Tomlin now!
I thought regardless of how his contract was, if he was offered a job which is higher than his current ie HC then I my understanding is that the team can't block him going.
If that is the case then no size of contarct extension would make a difference.Time spent annoying a Packer fan is never time wasted...

The only way giving him a contract extension would work is if his decision is based on money.
If he gets a comparable HC salary he may stay.
If being an HC is the driving force and not the money then it is a moot point.
I'm not sure if he is career driven or money driven or both.
If he is career driven only then you are exactly correct.Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please. Mark Twain

Re: Vike's should consider resigning Tomlin now!
"A day after traveling to the Twin Cities in owner Zygi Wilf's private jet, Tomlin signed a three-year contract worth approximately $1.5 million."
But I agree if he is offered a HC job, the Vikes would probably let him have his shot.
Though I think it is WAY to early to be worried about that.
