    Vikes cut Kelly

Vikings release Lewis Kelly on Thursday.

Kelly was an up-and-coming prospect who spent four seasons in the Vikings organization, but his 2002-03 season derailed following the death of his wife who died from a rare blood disorder.

It's been almost two years since Rakiva Kelly passed away, along with the couple's unborn daughter.

Kelly tried to fill in at backup center at training camp this year when starting center Matt Birk went down with a pelvic injury, but rookie Anthony Herrera quickly impressed head coach Mike Tice for the third spot on the depth chart, behind Cory Withrow.

``Very, very tough but it was time to move on,' Tice said of Kelly's release.

The Vikings also released injured linebacker Grant Wiley who suffered a separated shoulder in Wednesday's practice. Tice said it is possible they can still place Wiley on injured reserve but he first has to clear waivers.

The Vikings signed center Billy Conaty and cornerback Reggie Austin to fill the roster spots

"24 mil under the cap? there are teams 30 mil over the cap, heck that gives us at least 50 mil to spend"

It's a hell of a shame, he'd had a good showing in NFLE and was looking to establish himself with the Vikes when that all happened.
I wish him well wherever he goes to and hope that it all works out for him
