Versatile rookie CB hurts knee for Vikes
Versatile rookie CB hurts knee
Jerry Holt , Star Tribune
MANKATO - Rookie free agent Charles Gordon, who was developing into an early surprise of Vikings training camp, suffered what appeared to be a significant injury to his left knee during Thursday afternoon's practice.
Gordon, a cornerback/punt returner out of Kansas, pulled up during a 7-on-7 pass drill and was taken off the field on a cart. The Vikings did not provide a diagnosis, but trainers were flexing Gordon's left knee.
Gordon was a three-way threat with the Jayhawks -- playing receiver and cornerback and returning kicks. Special teams coach Paul Ferraro said earlier Thursday the team planned to use him as a punt returner during the preseason.
During an eventful performance Wednesday, Gordon intercepted a Tarvaris Jackson pass and forced rookie fullback Steven Jackson to fumble after a crushing hit. Veteran cornerback Antoine Winfield was impressed and believed Gordon was on his way to making the team.
"That kid can play," Winfield said. "It seems like every chance he has to make on the ball, he's making one. Somebody coached him well."Kentucky Vikes Fan

Re: Versatile rookie CB hurts knee for Vikes
Hopefully it's not that serious - I thought he was lookin pretty good so far. I was hoping he could make the team kinda like Dovonte Edwards and Laroni Gallishaw did last year.
But if it is serious, couldn't they just put him on the IR, and bring him back next year with no worries about roster spots? I'm not an expert on the rules, but I'm pretty sure they can do that.
Thanks PPE for the sig.

Tough loss, you wish you could go threw training camp injury free, but in reality its a injury filled job.I hope its not serious and he isnt gone for to long.

Theres NOTHING greater then a Florida Gator!

That sucks! I hope that we suffer no further injuries of any magnitude.
What we've got here is failure to communicate.

man, i was wondering who this young kid was that made those plays wednesday... i couldnt see the name on the back of his jersey from either of the angles..
now that i know who it was, i can honestly say... that kid can play, what a loss - a young hopeful out this early before we could see what he really has come preseason
