Re: Udeze believes he must prove himself again

I only saw the Vikings play 5-6 times last season, but when I did, I never noticed Udeze blowing a play.
Make no mistake, Darrion Scott and Udeze both played as well against the run as the Williamses.
Udeze was never billed as a speed rusher, rather he was supposed to be a good all-around tackle (ala Michael Strahan).

I never saw Udeze blow a play either, but he had a hard time getting into the pocket.
If they made the mistake of trying to run to his side he would meet the runner in the back field or at the line almost every time, but he just couldn't put up a good outside pass rush.
I really think he will be better back on his natural side.

I don't doubt it, he plays with good technique but doesn't seem to have the quickness of an elite pass rusher, which makes him better suited to play LDE.

MANKATO — The number glares next to Kenechi Udeze’s name, in the column labeled “sacks” wherever his 2006 statistics are posted....

Yes, Udeze, the first-team All-American defensive end for national champion USC who was drafted in the first round by the Minnesota Vikings in 2004 for his pass-rushing prowess
As a rookie, he played mostly on the right side when Kenny Mixon was the starter at left end.
    2004 - 5 sacks.
