He only made 91 catches in college so it's not like he was a sure-fire guy. And he did and does like to catch with his body.
He is the best example i can think of for drafting a player just for speed.
And PPE i don't think we play tonight.so tonight might be the night to make your judgment on him
he only caugh 91 catches in college.
don't you think our expectations of him in his first 2 years were probably a bit overzealous.
i'm not saying he is gonna turn it around and not be a bust, but i also wouldn't say the jury's in on him already.
he was a project when we drafted him and we all should have realized that.
the problem with projects is they don't always work out.
but i think it's been well documented all over this site that this is a make or maybe break season for williamson.LET THAT WHICH DOES NOT MATTER, TRULY SLIDE

Re: Troy Williamson
Thanks for the feedback.
I've been rooting for him since
he came out of college and have been drafting him for the fantasy team every year.
The talent is there... he just drops too many balls.
I took him again this year and was hoping for some positive feedback so I don't look like at turd sticking with him again.
I hope he puts up quality numbers and wish the Vikes good luck this year.
Remember it usually takes receivers longer to develop than other positions.
I like your rb tandem... Peterson will be a stud.

He's a bust in my mind because he can't catch simple passes that i would come down with 90% of the time.
Maybe he can relearn how to catch or not be afraid of the tackle. Until then he's a bust.

Re: Troy Williamson
To me, this is Troy's make or break year.
He does not have to put up huge numbers.
But, when the rock is tossed his way he was got to make the play.
If he can get us 50+ catches, I think that's a good year for him.

I agree.I was just watching the MN vs Sea game, and to answer your question about TW, NOT a very good season, JMHO!
He won't even be starting once Ferguson is ready.
It will be Wade, Fergie, and Rice.
TW missed that pass from TJ which should have been caught.
He could have laid out for it.
Maybe I should cut TW a break or maybe the coach should cut TW.
IDK?
Or I could make one more excuse for TW.
Having watched that play over again, that WAS catchable.
Instead of giving up his body and laying out for it he simply tried reaching.
The kid is just not a football player.
He is the football version of Kwame Brown.
IDK, but it looks like maximim effort to me.
Consider that he was held before this.
He was jacking around with that DB when he should have been flat out running.
Didn't seem like he found the ball fast enough to catch it.
To me, it is just more of the same disappointment just the start of a different season.
I have a gut feeling that TW will be the fourth WR this season and the KR or PR guy.
He seems to be a liability as a pass catcher.
JMHO!
I hope that I am wrong or someone else steps up to take his spot.
We need to give TJ more opportunities to succeed.

Re: Troy Williamson
does anyone realize we should throw him slants and shorter routes for the yac not the longball.. anyone see the first preseason game??? that grab over his head was amazing.. they need to just use him in the shorter routes and throw the long ball to someone else

I agree with SKOL & taped the game as well. It looked more to me like he was being grabbed on the right arm by the defender. I mentioned it in last weeks thread as well."Freakout" wrote:

It was a non-call, just like the one on Wade in the Seahawks game, the Cowboys returner tonight, who clearly was out of bounds on that return for a TD & the incomplete pass they ruled a fumble which wasn't overturned until the chiller threw the red flag.

Re: Troy Williamson
troy's biggest problem now is confidence.
if he makes a few plays in games early, he'll have a geat year, if he slips, rice is gonna move him outta the start.
i agree we should use him more in short routes that give him a chance to use that speed, but the random shot for it all is still where he excells. he can get the seperation, as long as he catches it he'll be fine.

as i mentioned in this thread and others, there have been plenty of wrs who entered the nfl and had problems catching the football, terrel owens, jake reed, chris chambers just to name a few.
it is fixable and this could be, and probably must be, the year he takes the next step.
i'm not gonna blow him up and say he's gonna catch 10 tds but i'm also not gonna just write him off when he's only 2 years in.LET THAT WHICH DOES NOT MATTER, TRULY SLIDE

However he has dropped a couple of those too (ex: Bears game last year on 3rd down).
He needs to focus and catch the ball with his hands.
He does better if the ball isn't thrown directly at him.
If he has to reach out he uses his hands.
This is a make or break year for him.
I agree with Ultra in that he doesn't have to put up huge stats.
Just do his job when he's called upon.
Once he begins doing that the rest will come naturally.
