Read your paragraph above and then reconsider his real(not his perceived) value.
That's his real value. There are teams willing to pay that. If he gets hurt with a career ending injury, only $4 mil of his contract is guaranteed, $32 million is guaranteed "for skill".
Teams would not be willing to commit two firsts, three firsts, or a package of multiple firsts and mid-round picks. We're not getting a Herschel Walker type deal.
But if we talk about production and value to the team, we're talking about a guy who averages 1445 yards per season, including a season he failed to reach 1000 yards due to injury. We're talking about a player who averages exactly 13 TDs per season. (LT averaged 14.72, Jim Brown:14, Sanders: 10.9, Smith: 11.6, Payton: 9.6, Dickerson: 8.2) So we're talking about someone who ranks up with the very best of all time. Not only is he a productive Viking, but he is the face of the franchise. He gives every fan a reason to watch the games.
We are spoiled with having AP. When he only runs for 110 yards, that's a down game. Remember when we had Moe Williams, Onterrio Smith and Mewelde Moore? Cracking 75 yards was a good game for one of them. We used to be so hurting at RB, trying to find someone (Ciatrick Fason in the fourth anybody?) It wasn't until Chester Taylor that we had any type of consistency.
So yes, I stand by the statement that AP is worth more to us as a Viking, than what we would reasonably get in return for a trade.
