    Touchdown to checkdown

Did anyone else pick up on the comment Childress made in his Monday press conference saying that they have a "touchdown to checkdown" mentality?

He kind of slipped that in, but if you remember the first few pass plays Brad looked deep right away then checked down to an open receiver.
This was common throughout the game and Brad threw it downfield several times.

Combine this TD to checkdown approach with a power run game and this could actually be a fun offense to watch.

    Re: Touchdown to checkdown

I remember during the game that Theisman questioned the 2 long passes down the sideline which where one after the other but what I was thinking is that if you keep going long a few times A. you can possibly get a pass interference call or B. you can catch it for a long gain or C. you make the defense stay honest.
    All three are a positive.
    I beleive it's a great philosphy.
Now this will cause a few turnovers through out the season but again it keeps the Defense honest and it will help those swing passes as well as checkdowns become longer gains.

That's a common approach, there are just some QBs that can implement it better than others.

    Yeah I saw that.

I am starting to believe that the whole WCO thing that was circulating during preseason is way off base.

Actually, I didn't notice that, but now that you mention it I think you are right.
This would definately mean more long balls for TWill.

    Hmmmm...

Maybe, but if Troy can catch the damn ball it'll be awfully hard for teams to put 8 in the box and that should keep things a bit spread out on 1st down (and other situations).

It could be a very productive offense, true WCO or not. So far I like it.

childress said the entire time he would be "putting his own spin on the WCO", well, he coaches donovan & terrell, this is his spin on it, more deep threats then the traditional WCO, if it keeps up how it was, ik i'll love it

    Re: Touchdown to checkdown

Mentioning those long passes made me think of that deep one that could've been a TD that went right through T-will's arms. Oh, that hurt to watch the replay.
    WE CAN BUILD ON THIS!!!

    In AP I trust
