    Read that.
I'm torn as to whether or not I think this is satisfying the "we talked to minorities" thing which the NFL has in place or if it is truly serious.
I think a jump to Head Coach is inevitable for Tomlin but, perhaps, a bit premature at this stage.

Thanks to Josdin for the awesome sig!

I think it is way too early to give Tomlin a job. I mean, it took guys like Romeo Crenell and Marvin Lewis 4 or 5 years of great defenses (not just great run defenses) to get head coaching jobs.

I'd be surprised if he gets it.

    I'd be surprised, too.
But Eric Mangini was a coordinator for only 1 year with NE before taking the Jets job.
And he's also only 35 or so.
Jets are in the playoffs - which might say something to owners about "young blood".

Here's the "key" sentence in the article in my estimation:
Tomlin won't be allowed to walk away without owner Zygi Wilf doing everything in his power to keep him in Minnesota. Wilf made it clear Tuesday that hanging onto Tomlin is a main priority.

Well if based on money that I can't see Zygi having a problem with that. If it's a matter of his job prospects then that could be harder. Maybe he'd promise Tomlin the HC job in a years time if Childress struggles again, otherwise maybe guarantee to release him next year if another HC comes up?

Could be a sign of Zygi hedging his bets on how Childress may perform?

Given the fact that he is a one year coordinator AND the fact that his defense was ranked dead last in pass defense, I can't imagie him getting a HC job THIS year.

I really hope that Zygi keeps Tomlin here... He has done alot for our defense in his first year, and it would suck to lose that leadership right away.. I have no doubts that he will someday be a head coach, I just hope that it is later on in his career..

This is exactly what I was fearing. This is a little earlier than I expected to hear his name associated with head coaching vacancies. I read a few articles saying he might be the steelers top candidate if Cowher leaves.

I hate losing our cordinators that go on and become very succesful head coaches on other teams (dungy, billick ect...). I wish Tomlin was our HC obviously wont happen. But IMO Childress wont last too long as our head coach and
will be fired in his 2nd-4th season depending on how many games he wins.

That being said Childress could prove me wrong and
lead the Vikes to their first Superbowl victory
and that would be great. And as long as were winning superbowls im not gonna complain. So im hoping for this scenairo to play out.

That way every year when I predict the Vikes to win the superbowl I wont look so stupid.
I hope it happens soon Im superbowl starved

He might be a good fit in ATL. I hate to see him leave, but the record on stopping the run was impressive. I hope Ziggy opens the piggy bank to save this guy.
