Maybe Karl Dunbar deserves more of the credit for our #1 run defense...we may still have gotten to keep the REAL reason as to why our defense was improved.

Bye Tomlin...good luck to you...onward and upward...we will be just fine!
I agree with you on this thats for sure.
It was the run D that stopped everybody not the pass.

I am not a huge believer in the Tampa 2 because there are too many holes and you can really exploit it with the run.
Thats why I am surprised we did so well against the run.

I especially liked the answer to the question of how he was going to handle the fact that Dick LeBeau ran a different defense than he does and he responded that he will use whatever system his palyers can work the best in. I wonder if any of that registered with Childress? To me it almost seemed there was a little subliminal message there.

It is kind of a mystery how you could even manage the #1 rush defense and the #32nd pass defense and somehow come out with an 8 Overall.
LOL, I wondered about that myself. Without looking at all the stats, one could easily believe we should be ranked somewhere around 16th overall.

Yes I blame him for not stopping the pass. NE exposed the Vikings and we never were able to recover.

Either way Tomlin good job last season and good luck with the Steelers.

no one person should be blamed for our pass defence....and as for our run defence, as good as it was, it had a break because after the NE game, everyone just threw on us.
Tomlin should have done a better job with pass defence schemes.
Childress should have address the issue aswell being the HC.
The players needed to step it up.
Football is not an individual sport by any means.
No one is crediting one person for our run defence are they?

Yes actually quite a few people are crediting Tomlin with our #1 ranked rush defense. Which is why I brought it up. If you want to label him the end all, genious that turned our run defense into the #1 in the NFL. You should also credit him as the bumbling idiot that turned out pass defense into the #32nd.

    Re: Tomlin Compensation??

Who cares about the pass defense when your only allowing 9 points here, 13 there. there were only 2 real blowouts, the patriots and the rams game, maybe 1 or 2 games we didnt have a chance. but other than those games the defense kept the vikings in 12 of the games they should never have been in with such an anemic offense. no QB passed over 300yds in any of the games. if with the 32nd passing defense you end up with 8th overall, should tell us they might even be better than we all think they were. how long has it been since the vikings defense was in the top 10?

i think some are fooling themselves and maybe are trying to justify tomlin being gone is a good thing, which by all means it is not. and thats not directed towards those only on this board. i hear it here as well from viking fans, "oh well, our pass defense sucked". the only thing that will make me feel better is if next year were just as good, maybe a little better in the pass. and that i believe will mean the run defense will suffer some.

    Re: Tomlin Compensation??

It's pretty unlikely that the run defense will be #1 again next year, nowhere to go but down.
The overall defense was in the top 10 last year in yds allowed.
They didn't let opponents rack up many pts with the exception of a couple games.
I hope the defense is still in the top half of the league in pts allowed next yr and it sure woudn't hurt if the offense put a few more pts on the board to help them out a little.
