Re: Todd Lowber - Unlikely NFL dreamer heads to camp

According to KFAN, this is how they break down the WR race:
(red = projected to be cut)

Wide Recievers
19 B. Wade
82 T. Williamson
18 S. Rice
12 B. McMullen
14 A. Allison
16 C. Hankton
15 M. Nance
11 J. Carter
89 C. Williams
00 T. Lowber
16 J. Surrence

Is keeping 7 WR unheard of?
I think if you're a team running a lot of 4 WR sets, then keeping 7 isn't totally out of the question.  Particularly if one of them is a valuable return man, as well (ie. Dante Hall).
Well then I say keep him at the expense of a third TE.
There is no reason to keep Todd Lowber on anything but the practice squad all season long.  Park him there and let him learn the game from an NFL team.

I don't think the Vikes will be running either lots of 4-WR sets or do they have a standout return guy who forces himself onto the roster (at this point - don't know anything about what some of the new WRs can do in that department, except that Bobby Wade's a fumbler as a return guy).  MeMo does punts - so that also lessens the return man need.

I think the Vikes will keep 6.

Allison
Carter
Hankton
Lowber
McMullen
Nance
Rice
Surrency
Wade
Williams
Williamson

That's the group in camp.  I've highlighted the locks (IMHO).  I really think there are only 3.

McMullen is probably a lock, and I think Jason Carter has a distinct advantage, as well.  Allison is probably the best of the bunch, so that's 6.

Unless Lowber is a total fuckup in camp (which is, of course, a distinct possibility), he's probably practice-squad bound.  Do you park Chandler Williams there, too, so your only option at WR isn't the guy who's never played football if one of the others gets hurt?

Interesting battle, I think.  Cortez Hankton might surprise and surpass McMullen.
