Re: Thursday Notes: WRs Driving The Plow
Neat article -- I loved this quote:
Thanks for the find Cogitans! The Vikings lead the NFL with 18 runs of 20 yards or more. To put it in perspective, eight teams haven’t even broken one run for 40 yards, and the Vikings have done it six times. To break runs of that length, the receivers must do some serious work on the edges downfield.
And make no mistake, all season long, Childress, along with wide receiver coach George Stewart have made blocking a main point of emphasis with these receivers. They’ve stressed for running backs to finish runs, and they’ve stressed for receivers to finish blocks.
With the Vikings sitting at 8-6, leading the NFL in nearly every rushing category imaginable, it’s easy to see that the hard work has paid off.
“Yeah, we’re going to be the first receiver core going to the pro bowl for blocking, and we’re excited about that,†Wade said jokingly.Kentucky Vikes Fan

When you require nothing, you get nothing; when you expect nothing, you will find nothing; when you embrace nothing, all you will have is nothing.

Re: Thursday Notes: WRs Driving The Plow
Totally agree. The receivers and tight ends are blocking GREAT !
When Kleinsasser is in there, it is like having an extra guard (from what I understand, the other linemen have nicknamed Kleinsasser "guard", too).
Birk also said that guys just block harder and longer when they know that the guy with the ball can break a big run off. Every guy wants to be able to say "I sprung that run", or "I was part of it when Peterson ran for 285 yards", etc.
