thoughts and insight
Well guys what can I say I feel horrible it was an loss, which to me is always ugly. Yet even though we had a negative out come today, I see glimpses of the future Vikings.
Perhaps it was only me, but their was some serious hitting on the defensive side of the ball today. This made me look at the Defenses' overall performance and I must say they played real well. Sure they gave up some points, but a lot of that had to deal with offensive miscues. I think a lot of these miscues were the result of youth and inexperience.
The game really reminded me of the first year I really followed the vikings. It was about this time of year back in the 1986 season. We had to go down and play Houston to be in playoff contention. We laid an egg. Poor offense with multiple turnovers turned a important game into a disaster, yet one thing was real evident in that game the Viking defense played hard and never quit. The defense had gelled down the stretch that year, very similar to this team. It was a team of youth and experience The youth came in the form of a very young Keith Millard and a converted LB named Chris Doleman. While the experience came in the way of a solid DE named Doug Martin and a outstanding SS in Joey Browner.
That very next year the Vikings would gell into one of the top defenses in the league, and then dominated in the 88 season.
While I hope we make the playoffs this year, it might not happen. Yet finally the team looks like its changing. No longer do we have to hold our breath in baited anticipation when the Defense comes on, but can calmly exhale and wait for strong play and hitting. Defense is what Minnesota Viking football has always been about. I look forward to this team in the future regardless of how the season turns out.

Couldn't agree more regarding the D. The years of no D were too stressful. Sure, the Vikings scored a bunch of points but it was painful to see the D hit the field. The team is starting to look like a real team.

I think it is easier to get the offense going then having a solid defense. The offense will come around with a few key acquisitions. Given a choice I will choose defense over offense anytime.

I agree with you 100% It has been since 1992 that i can remember a decent defense. I mean for all of Denny Green's offensive proweness he couldn't draft defense to save his life. I mean think about it next year we get Daunte back as well as Matt Birk back another year of seasoned Marcus Johnson and Anthony Herrera, plus a new crop of draft picks offensively we will be fine!
