Re: Thoughts on the 2006 Vikings

Kenechi Udeze is a bust. How any defensive end can start all 16 games in a season and not register even a half of a sack is beyond me. He was a highly touted speed rusher out of Southern Cal, but in three seasons (35 total games) the ex-first-round pick has a total of six sacks.

-The defense sorely missed Erasmus James. The speed-rushing end has a knack for getting to the quarterback. A lack of a pass rush was the biggest deficiency in an otherwise solid defense. A better pass rush would have helped the secondary a lot.

-Don't be surprised if the Vikings sign a pass-rushing DE to start opposite James and use Udeze and Ray Edwards in a rotation.
    Sounds good to me.

    I wasn't sold on Udeze

This hasn't been talked about much, we are all worried about the WR and the Offense, but this is a big issue, DE!

Edwards and James might just be Udeze wanna-bes for all we know.
They haven't played much at all.

Oh yeah, we most def need a passrushung end, but that sad offense needs attn first. The WRs look like the biggest need, and I am one of the 'draft Calvin' people, but the real need probably is the O-line. No QB, not Brad, Not Daunte, not T-Jack, can throw consistently under pressure. If Calvin is not there, we need OL. A guard and a tackle, thank you very much. we oughta get more than 3 first downs we a better OL.

-Other veterans on the team are unsure if they will be brought back. This includes both safeties, Darren Sharper and Dwight Smith, and corner Fred Smoot.

I just cant get over the fact that getting rid of Sharper even crossed anyones mind. I dont care if it's untrue or not..it's flat out ridiculous.

I would have to agree with you there, Sharper should be a no-brainer to keep, but Smoot is a waste of salary. I would give Kenichi half a season more to pick up his game before dumping him though.
